Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Michael Lam met me at my house, and we went on an adventure run.  It was supposed to be a 90 minute easy run, and the plan was to find our way from my place to tai po road and take it over the mountain (monkey mountain again!) and down to sha tin, then back.  So it would be an up and down, then up and down the mountain again.  We found our way ok and no monkeys attacked us.  There was a really steep road down to tai wai, which was horrible to go back up.  We got to the Sha Tin central park at 10k then came back.  Ended up being 1:43, or 5:11 ave pace.

We went to Causeway Bay in the afternoon, to a big park called Victoria Park, where we played tag, football (soccer) and frisbee. Then we went to the central library and ran the gauntlet to get our library cards and we all enjoyed picking out books.  Most books are in Chinese, but this central library was something like 10 stories high, so there were plenty of good english books.  I am actually in the middle of reading Tai Pan, which Paul bought me for Christmas, it is so good.  Then I have a book for our congregation's readers club called Three Swans, then I can start into the three books I checked out.  Lots of sloth in my future :D

So what's on your racing schedule now, after the half? Any goal races?

Hey Andrea, things are a bit looser, but I do have some goal races. I have Standard Chartered 1/2 on Feb 5 and an Italian 25k in April, which I get the travel paid for by a sponsor of my club is paying for. I would love to do a marathon after that, in May or June, but am not finding one close and don't really have the funds to go to Europe or the States. Our family of 5 is going to Vietnam and to the States this summer and that's where our travel money is going. We will be flying in/out of LAX so I need to check LA around the flights and perhaps I will run a race in Utah when we are home. That would be fun, though I will be sucking wind, being a lowlander now.
