Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Ran with almost a full women's posse!  Josse came down from Orem to SF to meet Jamie, Ally and Amber and I came too.  11am start!  Normally starting later causes me energy and or stomach issues but it was fine today.  It was about 16F at the start, nice and warm compared to the single digit temps I would have experienced at the early morning running time.

 We ran up and down canyon road until we found everyone and then did a loop through the river bottoms.  Ally defended us from the vicious fluffy white dog with her pepper spray.  I had one horse neighing part of the time, which felt nice.  I would have done a tempo today if I didn't have this hip groin issue, which Josse says is probably some tendonitis since it isn't painful enough to stop my running (correct me if I am wrong Josse - do you think it is an abductor strain and tendonitis or only the later?).  Anyway, she showed me another stretch and told me how to make a heating pad.  I hope it doesn't flare up enough to affect me more than it has.

It was lovely to run with my friends and in the sunshine. What a nice way to start the new year!

I think it is tendonitis (though it is hard to tell) but given how high it is, which is a tendonis area. But either way you would treat it pretty much the same. I had a great time running with you guys today Thanks.

I would do ice/heat 2-3 times a day for 5-7 mins a piece.

MichelleL: Any bloggers can award commando points. There is no way I can watch all the great efforts being put into racing and training. A little background on how the commando points came about may be helpful when you make your award:

"A couple of years ago I was training with my step son for the St.George marathon. We were on a long run when he decided we should have a contest to be the first to jump a chain stretched accross a shut down part of the trail. Well the race was on, (the chain was about 50 yrds ahead) we both took off like a shot to jump the chain, I tripped over a tree root, splattered on the ground, was back up in a split second and jumped the chain a split second after my step son. My step son said, wow, you are a real commando. From the point on, we awarded commando points for outstanding efforts. The real benefit of commando points, they will be cashed in for runner high moments when you least expect. The next time you feel great about your effort, your run, you can look back and say, hey, the run where I earned commando points really paid off. Hey, By the way, you can also lose commando points for breaking the BS Rools.

I like your bandit thing losing points, I am going to add that to BS Rools. Stay Cool, B of BS Rools out.

Sounds like you had a fun group today! Thanks for all your comments and motivation you have given me since i have been on the blog. You are so tough! Good luck on your 2008 training. Its going to be exciting to see what you do this year!

Michelle, I won't be meeting you tomorrow. I'll probably be running at 9am-ish because my husband has the rest of this week off of work and I don't like to face the cold temps unless it's absolutely necessary. Talk to you later in the week.
