Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Woke up with pain at a 3, then walking around its a 0-1, with pain of 2-3 if I bend, twist, or other such movements.  I am trying to keep my chin up and be grateful this trial is of a temporary and temporal nature. 

I am reading Uncle Tom's Cabin. For how much I love to read, there's so many influential books I haven't read.

Pain just a tad better than yesterday.

I have been a bad FRBer lately due to traveling, so I was checking up on everyone and reallllllly hoping to not see you rating your pain anymore :( Sorry that it isn't better yet, but it will be in due time. You still have some good times in you.

Have you read Into the Wild? Great, great book. And I think I read it in a day and a half, really easy read. And after you read the book, I recommend the movie. And the soundtrack :)

Sorry - this all just stinks. I was reading a couple of articles in Marathon and Beyond last night and was surprised how many people have had pelvic stress fractures - but they were all able to make a comeback after healing properly.

I need to follow your example better. My trail running addiction got the better of me today and I ran 23 trail miles today running a race backwards to greet all my friends. My sore foot isn't happy. Back to the pool next week.

Adam - I sure hope not. I don't think so either, since I was feeling odd in that area since Wed. I didn't know if it would turn achy or just feel like an atrophied part of my body being called back from the dead, it turned achy Fri after my second pool walk episode. I'll ask my sports physician on tuesday if light massage is ok. The other Adam on the blog says its ok.

Maurine - thanks for the shot of hope. I need an iv of it. It feels like the never ending story.

Davy - that is definitely not behaving yourself :) I was SO tempted to go up to Ogden to cheer on everyone there. Even the drive and exertion wouldn't have been good for me. I was lucky a friend wanted to do breakfast instead. I heard sausage and french toast heals all types of running induced maladies, by the way :D

Michelle, two books that I read every two years or so are:

To Kill a Mockingbird and The Milagro Beanfield Wars (after living in Arizona for a while you will appreciate this one if you haven't read it). An awesome book, that I need to read again now is One Hundred Years of Solitude (Gabriel Marquez) - interesting mix of mysticism and culture. For fun, you might enjoy Straight Man by Richard Russo (watch out, I laughed outloud with this one ... but it is about academics so it will hit you guys pretty close to home). The more I think about it, you need to read Straight Man, you need a little funny right now.
