Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Walked about 4 miles, then ran 1.1 (still can't find gps watch, so figured out distances per course tool).  9:37 ave pace for the run.  Walked 7.4 total, for 8.5 miles altogether.  

While running, pain the same as yesterday, gradually getting worse during my run.  I tried not to get upset about it.  Pain 1-3 in SI area, also tightness in right calf, my right calf-to-ankle tendons are tight/sore.  I knew my body might not be able to handle a lot of running, but c'mon!! I'm just running in the single digits/wk here.  Sigh.  Then I get on the scale and I'm a way lame 140.0 again (even after weighing myself a second time hoping for a lower number).  I am not going to have another lame day.  I am not going to have another lame day.

I saw Clay and found out he chose GO for his St G decision.  I hope he gets his BQ he's worked so hard for.  

Midday--walked over a mile with Paul

Evening--walked just over a mile, then stretching, ab workout

So I'm feeling so much better today than last week, so of course I have advice to offer. I can't ever tell you how to run but I can tell you exactly what to do about the 140 lbs. First of all-- calm down for a second and realize that if you've been hovering around that weight, it's super easy (water,rest,extra food) to get right back up there--but also to get right back down below it. Focus on eating lighter, more protein, less simple starches, and drinking more water. But as far as being depressed about the fast running-- you're body is totally in charge of healing. It will show you whose boss. Don't ruin stuff yet, you're just getting there--- this is where all that mental endurance pays off, not in the fast running, but in the enduring of the mundane. I was reading this horrible book called "Beautiful People's Diet Book" written in the 1970's by Princess Luciana Pignatelli. I just have to share this because it's simultenously hilarious and depressing. Here's the thought for the day: For heightened perception without drugs plus rapid weight loss, nothing beats the oldest known treatment for obesity: total starvation." Wow. How 'bout that?

Michelle- I understand that women are extremely preoccupied about their weight but after seeing you today you looked okay to me. So I don't know, I just don't get the weight thing;-) but then again I'm a guy.
