Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Tax season is over and I am down in St. G.

Spoke to Steve this morning, and instead of totally laying off, he is having me swim with little to no kicking with my legs, to get in an aerobic workout.

We are staying at the Green Vally Spa and Resort, in a very nice junior suite for two nights, which I won from getting 2nd in the St G marathon.  It's about $280 a night, so we are moving to a Holiday Inn after the two free nights to save money.   Too bad because our beds are like fluffy clouds.

My rear is feeling much better, some soreness in the SI and the sitting bone, lower.  I did about 20-25 minutes in the pool.  Looked like a total idiot, since the back half of my body was constantly sinking and trying to pull me under.  I must not be all fat or I'd float :)  I did about 14 or 16 laps, but slow going without kicking.  I made it across the pool 3 separate times freestyle, but I am so bad at breathing I was constantly sucking in water, so I did most in the backstroke.  I tried the breaststroke, but try that without kicking--its not for an amateur like me.  Tomorrow I'll wear my pool running belt, which will make me equally idiotic looking, but perhaps I will be able to do it for longer.   I also did hamstring stretchs and lunges, and knee rocks.

Happy end of tax season!!!! Yay!!

Keep hanging in there with the injury, it's hard to watch you go through all of this but you're doing awesome.

I am sooo jealous of your fluffy cloud bed.

Yeah, tax season is over!! We are in St. G too!! And actually not too far from you! I hope you enjoy your stay down here. Too bad you have to give up the fluffy clouds, but it sounds like it was mighty fun while it lasted and even better that they were paid for :). Good job michelle!!

Another nice thing to do to keep from kicking your legs is finding a kickboard (if one is available) and just draping your feet over that to keep them up.

Hope you had fun at Green Valley. Stacy and I really enjoyed our time their last year; totally worth taking 2nd at St. George. I agree, the beds are like puffy clouds!

Michelle,

I hope you enjoyed your well deserved break.

I tried to run again on Saturday. Very dumb idea.

Anyway, what I am trying to say is that if you ever want someone to look like an idiot with you let me know. I'd be happy to come to Lehi to do some pool running, or whatever, on a Saturday. Just let me know ... and tell me what I need to get. I have got to stop trying to run until the pain really goes down.

Congrats on surviving another tax season.

Laters.
