Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Ran at around 8am with Paul for 3 (we ran a 4 mile loop, but I ran one mile alone by going a little longer before turning around then catching him, that mile was 7:58).  The three miles with Paul were about 9:30.  Then I was on my own do do another 6 miles, and the sun was getting higher, the shadows smaller, and I had to hit the highway for a longer stretch.  The highway had a nice shoulder, but it had lava rock and desert wasteland on both sides, so it was just a hot, boring type of run.  My six miles were 7:30 ave pace, and I threw in 4 strides (my first since my groin/hip issues, and it felt fine, though it was hot by the time I did them).

While I was running through the resort to my tower I ran behind and then passed a guy, but not before I ran with him for a minute, discussed running and told him about the blog.  I wish I had pass along cards!

My groin issue was painful for about 1/4 mile at about the one mile mark, but it got better.  At about the same time, my right achilles was tight.  I need to calculate my miles on the shoes I brought.  I think it is getting time for new shoes.

Total ave pace 8:10

Sorry to hear about the fall, that is something I would do. Sound like your having fun. Wish I was there to accompany you on your runs.

It sounds so romantic to run with your husband in Hawaii! I'll have to admit that I am a little jealous that you are running in 70 degree weather, and we are looking at yet another snow storm today! How has your trip been so far? I am sorry to hear about your fall! I am looking forward to running with you soon!
