Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Pain notched up, 0-2.

2 miles walking with Marion in 39:47.  Marion helped keep the pace easy by stopping every once in a while to demonstrate a yoga pose :)   She's trying to convince me I need to do yoga, but it is so dang time consuming.  I'm sure I can do a 30 minute stretching routine which will give me all that I need and give me the time to train that I need.

I can feel a difference between my two sides but no pain.

I did good with my eating yesterday, and I intend to keep it up.  Part of of losing weight is reteaching your brain that it is ok to be hungry at times during the day, and exercise helps. 

I have a digital scale and today's weight is my first morning weigh in.

Hola! Long time no see :) Thanks for the walk. Yoga can be for later in your life :) You seriously need to check out some yoga demo's on youtube. Those Yoga masters are unreal!

Good luck w/ your healthy eating kick, , , , I'm also trying to fine tune my diet and it's not easy, , , at all! But worth it:) You're amazing, good luck w/ your week plans for easing back in. Take care and, of course you know this, but listen to your body! :)

What are your eating plans for losing the weight? I am trying to follow the concepts of Clean Eating (mainly eating healthy). Do you count calories at all?

Marion - that's what I was thinking, maybe 10 years down the line get into more yoga.

Maurine - I use mypyramidtracker.gov, on which I'll track my eating and activity levels. It will show me how my daily diet stacks up to what I need, both calorie and nutrition wise. I'll try to consume 500 cals less than I expend. It takes some time to do this tracking, so I will likely just do this for 3 weeks or so, to re-establish good habits, reacquaint myself with what one cup or two cups of pasta/salad/oatmeal looks like, and to kick start my weight loss as I start to exercise. I haven't exercised in three months, and it's just too hard for me to restrain my eating if I can't also exercise, the other key piece to healthy living. This is my major source of nervousness right now. I know I can lose the weight if my body will let me exercise. PLEASE CAN I EXERCISE? PLEASE???

HAHA I bet the walk with Marion was a blast! I can only imagine the type of fun that you all had. Was she demonstrating yoga poses in the road?!? Emma always says I need to try Yoga so Maybe I'll give it a try too!

Moderation in all things, grasshopper. Do not run/walk farther or faster than you are able. Be patient a while longer and you will be able to run and not be weary and walk and not faint.

Benn- you are like 170#s and 6 feet bazillion inches tall! If you lose more weight, Emma won't be able to find you ;) Yoga in the road is the BEST. You test your balance, peripheral vision and agility to avoid cars ;) Plus it embarrasses Michelle!

Hi Michelle! Good to see you out there again, yippee. I lost quite a bit of weight simply by eating at very regulated times (including snacks) and smaller portions.

So glad you are out walking!!! Okay ... I have to agree with Marion on the yoga. But it does not have to be time-consuming. Most of my yoga routines are roughly 17 minutes long -- seriously. My favorite is the AM portion of Rodney Yee's AM/PM Yoga. It helps me a ton!!!!
