Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Met MacK and TylerS in SF.  Ran 2 miles warm up.  During the warm up I noticed I was having a hard time breathing.  I think its the typical sleep deprivation, caffiene effects I experienced last year.  Also right glute hurt.  Stretched, then started a 4 mile tempo, starting at Osborne's, then around the golf course.  So first mile is uphill, then next mile is downhill with some uphill at the end, then gradual .5-1% downgrade for last two.

Splits from last time I did this in December were (6:47,6:13, 6:05, 5:54)

1 - 6:24, MacK hung with us for about half a mile, but continued to push at her pace

2 - 6:14

3 - 6:10

4 - 6:06, 6:14 ave pace Tyler ended up 2-4 seconds ahead, and I am sure he could have done even better if I could have been up there with him.

Felt like death after the tempo.  Glute hurt and felt like a zombie, but felt better after a mile slow.

ave pace overall 7:34

Ice bath (because of glute)

You are an amazing runner, we all know this. So I have no comment there. But your weight just amazes me. You say peanut brittle makes you go up a few pounds, then it is a gone a few days later. If i have one moment of indiscretion, it is more like 4 pounds and it takes weeks to get rid of it!!! Your indiscretions must be very SMALL!!!!

Struggle often.

How about struggle always?

From Kelli on Sat, Feb 14, 2009 at 15:51:46

Well, I was trying to be a little more positive, but YES, struggle always.

Great job, Michele. How is the glute feeling now? (only 2 months until April 15th)

Nice run (as always) Michelle.

Hope the icebath helped (sorry about the breathing).
