Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Food last night:  artichoke dip, sundried tomato-pine nut-pesto-cream cheese dip, shrimp dip, slushy punch, straight coke, homemade rolls, italian soup, chicken and white bean chili, kale and squash soup, curry soup, tres leches cake, lemon cake, chocolate cake, dipped goodies from the chocolate fountain (and I just listed the things I ate).  A big thanks to everyone for cooking up a storm for the party.  It was great to get together, as always.  I weighed in under 130 today for the first time in half a year.  I was so shocked I weighed myself again to make sure the scale didn't make a mistake, but same: 129.8.  I feel downright sheepish.

Slept in, walked 5 miles, stretched, brought the kids home from their primary program practice, changed into shorts, went back out.  Walked .5, more stretching, then ran 8.5 miles at 7:54 ave pace.  Felt great!  So 14 miles total and didn't even get home until after noon.  Did more stretching at home.  Talk about wasting my day away.

I heard back from my prospective coach, Tom, who has coached Paul Petersen, and he said there's no need to hire him until I am in the 40's for a month, to just get in mileage and lots of stretching (he did mention the dreaded four letter Y word, Marion :/).   Kind of bummed out because I am ready to go mentally, but not ready to go physically.   Need more base.  Does that mean no tempo miles????  It felt so good to tempo this week.  What a high.

Hope Tom works out for you. He's a good guy, great coach. I've thought about going back to him, but I'm just too cheap.

Crap! Hmm, I mean AWESOME, Marion!!!! If I have to be dragged by someone into the yoga world, I guess there's no one else I'd rather it be by.

I'm so glad you're feeling well, plus weighing in at a low after SAturday?? JEALOUS!! It will take me 5 months to work last night off :)

Yoga is good, stinky but good. Let Marion and Josse torture you a little, you'll end up loving it in the end!

Thanks again for hosting such an amazing party!!! It was wonderful fun!

I got it finally. The "Y" word had me on the edge of my seat. What evil could it stand for? I mean "The Y" is not doing so good this year....but really "Y" for Yoga is a much better evil. I am soooooooooo not flexible, my hinges would crack at your classes Marion and Josse. What pose should I start with? Class 1A for Beginners please. I hope you don't mind if I join your "class" Michelle. I also need some sort of core besides the rounded one I have.

Michelle--thanks for hosting a really fun party. It was very fun to get together and play games and eat food. Every single thing was more delicious than the last. I am just coming out of a sugar coma, which however, I don't expect to be fully recovered until at least Wednesday of next week. It was a wonderful evening. Thank you for your wonderful gifts of diamonds and titanium to remind me what all I'm made of. You guys are awesome. Thanks so much. It was the best party I've been to in a very long time. Also, no one spanked me or threw any food--big plus.
