Michael, hang in there. Look at the positive side, you have all winter to build up a running base. If you cannot run for awhile, really keep up the cardio. You really won't lose much. Races are great, but at our age, I will be 57 this year. I normally only race every two weeks, at the most. (Pick the really good races to run). I have really spaced out hard and easy days. 2 hard days a week spaced out with all real easy runs. I ran my first marathon in 1982, St.George, have ran 33 marathons. When healthy, I average 2,000 to 2,600 miles per year. (I have kept a mileage base for over 20 years) My legs can likely handle it a little better than yours right now. I love to run just for the sake of running. I ran for ten years without running a race from the mid eighties to the mid ninties. I would run if there were no races. I really got back into running races when I met my current wife, you was a runner. My advice, get healthy, really work on building up your mileage base over the winter. You really don't need to be concerned about speed much during the winter. It is easy to get caught up in the hype about races, speed, PRs, awards, etc. The real joy of running is having someone to share it with. Enjoy this special time with your son. When you are older, you are lucky to be running and staying healthy. It is great to read all the blogs from the speedy runners. But, be careful, we cannot handle the same workouts and recover as quickly. Good luck, let me know how it is going.

Thanks - good advise. Will see what they say Tuesday.

Oh well - there goes the big contract that I signed with Nike, I was going to be on the cover of this months Runners Magazine, I was primed for a breakthrough 2:10 at Saint George (I think thats 2 days 10 hours) and my almost guaranteed Bejing Olympics (guess Ill have to wait until 2012).....
