Short-Term Running Goals:

  • Sub 40:00 10K
  • 2:59 Marathon
  • 1:25 Half Marathon
  • 18:30 5K

Long-Term Running Goals:

Maintain my health and continuously seek to improve my fitness. Maybe someday get under 3:00 for marathon. More importantly, I'd like to figure out what my maximum ability is and reach that.

I'd also like to find the right balance in life and use running to enhance and improve myself.

Personal:

Dad of  three (welcome Charlotte Dani on 8/10/20) awesome kids and stepdad to three almost as awesome as my own kids.

I have a brown dog named Stella, and three cats - Catty, Tortie, and Esperanza.

(old lines that were a little out of date but couldn't quite bring myself to removing them completely:) Also, have one wonderful brown dog named Sammy and just added a grey tiger cat (Catty) whose life started out rough but now has a better home.

I've recently started another blog so I can easily add lots of pictures and so other non-FRB users can leave comments:

Forward Progress!

Also, for 2012 I started a blog to write down each day one thing that I am grateful for

Grateful Blog

Love living in Florida but love to travel and see the country and rest of the world.

Week before the marathon, just under 6 miles "easy" with 5 x 100m strides at the end.  Did out and back run from my house down the Starkey Gap Trail with strides done up and down the street near my house.

Ran in Westlake Village with one mile easy warm up and then 4x1200m repeats (with 1 minute rest between each).  Average pace for the repeats came in just under 7:00 pace.  Pace felt good, did not feel too difficult.  Finished up with 1 mile "easy" which was a lot faster than the warm up mile but at least felt easy.

Back to real easy pace today.  Just over 4 miles running with Stella (so there were some unplanned stop and sniff stops).  Ran from my house, then north up the Starkey Gap Trail, then returned back the way I came.

Ok, today was supposed to be just 3 "easy" miles.  Instead I wanted to try getting right onto pace similar to what I'd want for race day.

First I jogged around a small block, about 1/4 mile, then did three strides, paused like I was at the start line and then started.

Ran the three'ish mile loop inside Westlake Village which is a little short of 3 miles so I overalapped to reach the distance.  Paces were 7:48,7:41, and 7:30.  The first mile felt hardest (actually the first half of the first mile was what felt hard).

Upon looking back I probably could have just done the three easy but this felt like a confidence boost.

I'm not sure if this run would be my undoing, but waking up on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday did not feel great (although Saturday was the worst feeling day).  Not sure if I was fighting something as I don't think this 3 mile run could've ruined me.

Rest.

Did not sleep well last night so woke up not feeling rested.  Helped get everyone packed up and in the car heading over to Florida's east coast for the marathon.  Dropped off Jessica's older girls with friends who lived a little bit (about an hour) south from where the race was.

Was starting to get tight on time (expo went until 5:00, I was on track to get there at 4:00). Andy, Jenny, and Tom were already there so asked if they could pick up my race bib.  That helped lower the stress.

Checked into the hotel and after relaxing a little got take out from an Italain restaurant nearby for spaghetti and meatballs.  After dinner laid out my stuff and made plans for 4:30 wake up and to the start line for 6:00 am race start.
