Ran in Starkey, pleasantly cool. Arrived just before 6:30, started running about 6:40. I was going to wait a little longer for Eudair but wasn't sure how long it would take and I wanted to try and get in close to 10 miles, if not 10.
I was talking to Keith, Jammie, and David J. before the run, but they got going before me. So, I started out by myself. It was still dark out but I knew it would not be for long (I'm not a fan of starting out in the dark by myself, but the reward of being on the run while it gets light out and the sun comes up is worth it). I was also a bit tired starting out, did not get much sleep the night before.
After about 3 miles, the horse flies were starting to get bad. I did not get bit, however it's very annoying when they keep buzzing around you, sometimes bumping into you, and it seems like they will bite you if you slow down or don't keep swatting them. I was wishing that I was running with other people at that point so the flies would not be all on me and we could watch each other's backs.
As I was getting to about 4.5 miles out I decided I would not go for 10, but would turn around a little bit early. Once I turned around, and although I was in the same place, the view was drastically different, with layers of low lying fog hovering above the ground. I felt better. Then was back at the 4 mile water stop, where a group had stopped, and many of them were going to turn around.
Ran with David, Eudair, Rachel G. and Clive. Felt good especially the last two miles.
At the end of the run I finally felt light and springy.
Gave Eudair a ride back to her car, then I headed home to take Thomas to bowling and look forward to a mostly relaxing day.
Well, one week to the next race, then no races scheduled after that so far.
