Prs:

1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

2 miles outside at 10:45 pace. I was so sore from my long run on Sat.

My sister Laura (on the blog) is in town for New Years. She is trying to decide if she should run a 3 mile race tonight. I will be her pacer if she does. Everybody go comment on her blog and tell her to do it! It will take quite a bit of effort for me to keep up, though, in my present state. She'll probably need me to run about 10-10:15 pace for 3 miles. We shall see if I hold up!

(LATER THAT NIGHT...)

Wow! Laura ran a great race! Her average pace for the 3 miles was 9:37--that's about 2 minutes per mile faster than the last race she did! I am so proud of her. And she made me WORK! Her last mile was the fastest at 9:22 according to my Garmin. And she was fresh, too. You should have seen her sprinting to the finish line at Warp 9 to try to keep from getting "Geezered" by this old guy. (He was a really tough old guy, though, I must say.) She recovered quickly, and from my observations, merely looked "tired," not "wasted." I think with a little more experience racing she will continue making huge PRs. If this had been a full 5K she would definitely have been below 30 minutes.  (THAT'S OVER A 6 MINUTE PR FOR 5K!!)  According to my watch, she finished at 28:40. The results said 28:50, but I think that that was gun time, instead of chip time.

Tomorrow when I have a little more brain cells awake I want to start a discussion about how to encourage someone to do their best when you pace them. Any ideas of things that work of don't work? Basically tonight I mainly lied (I told her we were going 10 pace, which was the goal, but actually we were going 9:30), cheated, stole (not really), sang, did fartleks with her, feigned not holding up very well, praising her for pushing it, talked as fast as I could for 28 minutes, yada yada yada. She responded every time I asked her to push it! That was just SO DARN COOL!!!!! I'm so glad I got to be a part of this.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Lybi, smart to run today, active recovery always works best for me and soreness. You and James have a great 2008. You have really helped make the blog fun. I am going to offer Laura Commando points, we will see if that helps.

Very cool that you got to pace Laura in a race. You are a stud! (And great sister too!) HAPPY NEW YEAR LYBI! Can't wait to see you at Painter's!

From Christi on Tue, Jan 01, 2008 at 02:50:17

Who me? I'm not up! Haven't you seen all the sleep hrs. I've been accumulating?! How 'bout you? You're not up either are you? HA! Tomorrow or sometime when I'm not too tired to think we should chat about a FRB party plan! I feel bad that I'm not having people here because my house is an old falling down fixer upper that always has projects going on- but we do need to figure out a congregation spot!

From Lybi on Tue, Jan 01, 2008 at 02:58:19

I'm sleep blogging. I'm gonna log these hours as sleep because I'm only half conscious. ;)

Yea! Party time! As long as there are FRB bloggers there will be a party going on--even if it's just on race day. It would be nice to see everyone in one spot, though. Spaghetti is optional.

From MOM on Tue, Jan 01, 2008 at 10:05:59

Wow, Lybi. Thanks for running with Laura. I bet she really enjoyed running with you. I am in awe of your Saturday run also. I hope this 3 miler helped you to recover.

From laura on Tue, Jan 01, 2008 at 12:11:00

Very sneaky, Brent! Offering those commando points when you know they always seem to motivate me!!

Thanks a million, Lybi!! You were so awesome and I simply couldn't have done it without you!!! I think you're one of the few people who could've rattled on for 1/2 an hour while I'm runing and not have it bother me. (hee, hee)

From Brent on Tue, Jan 01, 2008 at 15:03:18

Lybi, I am going to comment on Laura's blog also. It is such a pleasure to see two sisters share such an great experience. 25 commando points to you for all the right reasons. Good self reflection for last year, how has running changed your life? Don't expect an answer.

You are quickly moving from student to student/mentor, that is the key, pay it forward. By the way, you did this with sore butt and all.

How fun that you got to run with your sister! I thought about doing that race (I did it 3 years ago), but we threw an impromptu party instead. If you do it next year, let me know-it's 5 minutes from my house!

Did they have chili and cornbread at the finish??!!

From Lybi on Tue, Jan 01, 2008 at 15:09:19

Fun Shauna! Let's plan on it for next year!

Thanks Brent. The main way running has changed my life is that I eat a lot more. Does that count? JK Happy NEW YEAR!

From MichelleL on Tue, Jan 01, 2008 at 15:37:57

Lybi - I read Laura's blog first and was so impressed at your pacing. Generally pacing is a two way street and should be different for each pair (pacer and pacee). I am tough and want my pacer to be tough but encouraging (believing in me but yelling at me if necessary). I think you did a great job, but Laura also had to cooperate to make it work and you two made a great team last night. If I could generate commando points I would give you more than 25 for your efforts, but then I'd have to take away for the banditing, so perhaps you'd end up at 25 anyway ;) Way to start out the new year!

From Michelle on Tue, Jan 01, 2008 at 15:53:25

Awesome job!! That sounds like you had such a great time!! Maybe you can pull me through the half this month!! But that's o.k. if you do it by letting me chase you from a long distance away!! So fun to share this fun New Years night with the sister....( I'm sooo jealous that I don't have one!!!) Maybe you guys will have to make it a tradition!!! Well the hubby and I are going running in a bit, I'm hoping to talk him into something long to keep pushing this knee! I think it's going to be fine!

From Cody on Tue, Jan 01, 2008 at 18:00:20

Nice work pacing. That can be tough as you really want to do well, but still want to be friends after. Way to go...

From MarcieJ on Tue, Jan 01, 2008 at 18:11:40

Wow! Good job-your race sounded so fun (I read Laura's too) and you did a great job pacing. I can only imagine how fun you are in person cuz you always make me smile on the blog!

From Mik'L on Tue, Jan 01, 2008 at 18:29:33

Nice work Lybi! I think from now on I will wait a few days after you blog to comment so I don't have all ten MILLION comments come back on my email! A song from Wicked comes to mind. ;)

From James on Tue, Jan 01, 2008 at 18:36:53

Nice work coach!
