Prs:

1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

Ran my son to school, then ran a couple more miles.  Had to take the double jogger for the last mile, because James had to take the car in.  12:50 (with my son), 10:20 alone, 10:23 partly with the jogging stroller, .89 at 11:20 pace with the stroller.

1.3 miles later to pick up my son from school.

I'm feeling really happy because James doesn't have to work today!  Yea!  We are gonna carve pumpkins and other fun stuff.

But I am also feeling slightly creeped out because I had to kill a bark scorpion.

Incidentally, the first scorpion I ever saw was on my 2 year-old's back!  He came running to me saying, "a crab! a crab!"

I said, "A crab?  Where?"

He replied with obvious delight, "On my neck!"

Sure enough, it was the venomous bark scorpion on his shoulder blade.  I brushed it off and killed it, and we obviously both lived to tell the tale.  But this is just one more reason why I want to move to New Mexico.  NO SCORPIONS!

I can't believe you posted that picture!!! - not just for the technological expertise but the sheer yuckness factor!! Blek!!! (hee, hee) I hate scorpions ... almost as much as I hate Centipedes. Nothing quite gives me the creeps like those ugly buggars.

Great running. I've been such a slacker lately. But I finished that crazy, addicting Twilight series now. You have GOT to call me when you finish Eclipse. I have to talk to someone about it!! Luv ya

you seriously killed one of those. you are an inspiration to me. I could never do that. i would run the other way!

From Mik'L on Wed, Oct 31, 2007 at 12:51:46

When they get that nasty, I vacuum them up so I don't have to touch them! Yuck!

So I guess we need to start pinning down our run this Saturday! Let me know since we are in your territory!

From Heber on Wed, Oct 31, 2007 at 12:56:58

You should both talk to Debbie about the Twilight series. She's big on it. Kimmie didn't like it that well though.

I had a pet scorpion in my office for almost a year. His name was Hobbs. That photo looks alot like him...

From Tom on Wed, Oct 31, 2007 at 13:18:13

Hahaha...Cal(vin) and Hobbs...hehehe I get it.

So Lybi why do you want to move to New Mexico and not our fine state of Utah? There are plenty of scorpion-free places here you could live if you don't mind maybe putting a few more layers on during winter time running.

From Clay on Wed, Oct 31, 2007 at 13:31:08

Just seeing that picture freaked me out, I hate scorpions and snakes and spiders!!!

From Lybi on Wed, Oct 31, 2007 at 17:36:59

Laura, I had to do SOMETHING for Halloween! Scorpions are scarier than spiders, by all accounts.

Marci, I guarantee you could kill a scorpion if you thought it was a danger to your kid! The sting of a bark scorpion can be fatal to little ones, and people with certain allergies. It is probably about the same as a black widow--except it works through nerve toxins. I know someone who was stung by one, and they lost feeling and the use of their arm for 2 weeks!

Clay, you are right. All those things are yucky.

Cal, I bet you had a big ol' desert scorpion. They are much cooler (bigger) and not dangerous. Very interesting choice for a pet! Now the real question--did you ever pick it up? No? What kind of pet owner are you?! JK

Tom: Too many weirdos in Utah. (I'm gonna get it for that one!) Actually, I am a BYU alum. and I LOVE the mountains and weather, plus good friends. The only problem with Utah for me is that no one from my family lives there.

happy Halloween, scary, scary, scary, good work on the running today.

From crumpyb1 on Wed, Oct 31, 2007 at 20:23:20

Lybi, thanks for the CREEPY Halloween picture and story! I was thinking if I was really cool, I'd have a digital camera and transfer a picture of Will in his pilot costume straight to today's blog. But since I still buy film, we'll have to wait a month for me to take the rest of the pictures and develop the film.

I've been thinking about adding a digital camera to my Christmas Wish List along with a Garmin, World Peace, a shopping spree to JoAnn's, a life time exemption from all race fees, a cure for all types of cancer, and more running socks.

FREAKY! I hate scorpions! I've seen a couple this past year in SG. Saw a huge one at 5am one morning while running in the dark- my flashlight just happened to shine on it right by my foot- yuck! Funny story about your son calling it a crab!!! Thanks for the Moab info. I just want to make sure I get a check to Michelle in the mail, but I'll just chat w/ her when she gets back. Have fun running w/ Mik'L & Shauna this Sat!

From Mik'L on Thu, Nov 01, 2007 at 17:14:59

FYI, I emailed you with my info. See ya Saturday!

Christi- Michelle doesn't have to sign us all up. She will just sign herself up and name the group and then we can all go online and sign up and add ourselves to the group that she made up. Does that make sense?

From Michelle on Thu, Nov 01, 2007 at 19:32:00

Hi,

I'm home and feeling a little out of it! So I'll get everyone signed up but I need the official name! Well not everyone but me and then you guys can get on and sign up. I'll get on it as soon as I hear from someone!
