1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

I ran sub-6:00!  I ran sub-6:00!

You doubt?  It's true.  I was out the door at 5:50 am and ran 2 miles (at about 10:00 pace).  He he.  If I ever really do break 6 minutes for a mile, it would be the equivalent of a medal at the Olympics for me.

I'm really happy with this run.   First of all it was a recovery run, so I really didn't push it.  I just ran normally.  PLUS I negative split it.  First mile in 10:02, second in 9:50.  Without too much effort.  Yea!  I think I just tend to run faster when I run outside than I do on Fred.  Fred is boring.   It was such a nice morning, too!  I can't believe it was so cool.  Nice.

BTW I got to bed on time last night.

I think you're insane!

From James the hubby on Tue, May 22, 2007 at 14:57:27

If you think she is insane, I got up at 4:45 this morning to do my run . . . or maybe it's the naming of the treadmill . . .

Congrats on the run - there is no doubt in my mind you will be able to break 30:00 on Saturday.

Ha ha. I guess I must be in the right sport then. I guess I can't blame you, sometimes I put some rather odd things out there. In my defense, however, people who know me well do not share your opinion. I'm just SPUNKY!

Ya, today would not have worked for me, but maybe next time! If James is running St. George this year(?), you'll have to come up early and do a run with the St. George Running Club girls. :)

Lybi - running 2 miles sub-10:00 on average and calling it recovery after less than two months of introductory training shows that sub-6:00 all out mile is a very real possibility in the future. And sub-6:00 for the time you start is a key ingredient to running a sub-6:00 mile. I think you might be ready for the day does not end until you've got 3 miles on the odometer. Try alternating 2 and 3 mile days and see how you handle it.

On another subject, I've got a piano question. I've been practicing about 15 minutes a day 5 days a week. I got to the point where I can do what I call pseudo sight reading. I can play the alto and soprano part with one hand after some practice (maybe a couple of sessions) for the hymns I've heard before. I do have to look at the notes, which is a good sign, I think - it means I am reading them as I play rather than memorizing. My eventual goal is to be able to play all parts of the hymns well enough to where one could sing to it. What would be the next step you would recommend?

Thanks Sasha! Wow, you really know how to boost the ol' morale. I needed that.

About piano. Great job! You've improved a lot since the last time I saw you. Tenancity is one of your strengths. I'll email you my suggestions.

I did mean that in a positive way! Unfortunately James, it isn't the early running that labels one insane - As a fellow desert runner, I often find the joy of the alarm waking me well before 5 to get going - it is what you do with the rest of your time that gets you there!

And Lybi: MiKL labeled ME insane, and I just don't think that is fair!

I think at this point I am more inclined to trust Mik'L's judgement than yours, Mr. He Who Treads On Rattlesnakes. : )
