Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

8 Hours and 20 min. of sleep. Hope that is good enough to keep me in the lead!

I just finished an hour long martial arts-themed workout class at that gym. It was pretty fun, but after running so much, it didn't seem to give me that good of a cardio workout. Probably because at least half the time I was standing around trying to figure out what to do! Let's just say that I have very little Bruce Lee in me. Maybe next time I'll try spinning! I signed up for a 2 week trial membership at this gym. I may spring for the year membership...I'm still going back and forth.

Way to go! Gym and running! Yeah, I tried one of those dancy kick box type classes, not for me. But try spin- I think you'll like it! (I'm nervous about picking a fight w/ Sasha... and my husband said that's mean...help...should we have some other torture for loser?)

Christi--I completely agree and I am relieved you brought it up. What should we do? A super long run, 200 sit-ups etc. Or something else you loathe. Hmmm. Mostly I loathe...toilet scrubbing and mopping sans technology (he he). Also track workouts. I'm open to suggestions.

Good job Lybi, I really like spinning the only thing is for the first few times I had a sore rear end, but it didn't take long to get use to the seat. Lately I've added ankle weights to make it a really good workout.

Go Bruce Lee!! Ya, I don't like the kick boxing either. My hips and knees really hurt afterwards - and not in a good way either. I've heard spinning is a great workout, but I haven't tried it yet. Holy smokes to adding ankle weights, Sylvie!!! You animal!!

So ... you're running "later." Hopefully that isn't while it's ... dark outside. Seriously, I'm going to send some money myself for that gym membership just so you won't run outside at night anymore!! Maybe I'll start a fund "Save the Lybster from herself" fund. ;o) Be safe!!!! Luv you.

Good job in the sleep department, Lybi! And spinning is much better cross training for running than martial arts. I never took a spinning class, but I saw it in progress, and those ladies were WORKING, sweat dripping left and right and everything! It looked like a very hard workout.

From Sasha Pachev on Thu, Feb 07, 2008 at 23:08:48

I think spinning and martial arts are a good form of cross-training, spinning being better for your endurance, but only if you have unlimited time available. If you only have an hour or less in the day to exercise, and you are healthy enough to run, your best bang for the minute is to run.
