1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

Yesterday I returned from a very interesting vacation.  I woke up Friday with a swallowing-razor-blades sore throat, packed up and left to go to CA.  By the time we got there I had a pretty bad fever and was all but delirious.  That night I shivered and moaned all night and my fever got scary.  The next day I went to the ER.  Thankfully, I barely remember that day.  I had a pretty bad strep infection.  So it took a couple of days before I did anything but sleep and take antibiotics.  Yesterday was the first day without fever, but I still felt ridiculously weak.

It's worse than ridiculous to haul your body hundreds of miles just so you can visit with family, and then do nothing but lay in bed the whole time you are there, but there it is.  Some of my cousins probably never even knew I was there!  On the bright side, though, if it is absolutely necessary to get sick as death, it is very good luck to do it when my out-of-state Mother is around, as she is the most nurturing soul alive.

So I ran a mile this morning at 10:10 on the treadmill.  I was surprised that I felt pretty good.  Good enough that I will probably do another one tonight.  I'm behind in my training and a little annoyed about it!  My next 5K is on July 4th and I absolutely have to take off at least a minute from my last one.  I don't know why, but I do!

Lybi, good to hear you are back, I was a bit worried about no updates on your blog based on your arches and pains. Your comments are always great, if you hit the wall, its a hard way to get commando, points, at least 25. By the way, I have went off the treadmill 3 or 4 times when I was day dreaming, I have also ran right off the running trail. My wife justs laughs when I am not paying attention. Thanks for your comments.

wow- sounds pretty nasty! glad you are feeling better!

Yup, was quite a vacation. I think you just about covered everything. As far as the run tonight goes - if you are feeling up to it, just take it easy. I don't want you overdoing it after being sick. That is prime time for pushing your body too far without realizing it. Just remember the 8K I ran last January where I went into shock afterwards and they had to call the paramedics . . . "honey - remember how you asked me to take it easy? well, I overdid it, and they had to call the paramedics . . . can you come pick me up?" I seem to have a propensity for doing this. I remember another time when we were in Michigan where I got heat exhaustion and you had to come pick me up then, too. Geez, hope everyone else learns from my example of what NOT to do :)

Oh My Gosh! That strep infection sounds like it was horrible! Glad you are better now. Thanks for your perspective on having it all- but not right now, really helped me focus! So you're running a 5k next month? I want to do a July 4th run too, haven't picked one yet... it'll be a 5 or 10k... Keep Plugging Along...!

Sounds like a memorable vacation... Hope you get feeling well soon. But you already sound like your doing pretty well, but you should take it easy, a 10:10 pace on the treadmill sounds really good coming off of that!

So sorry to hear you got sick at the reunion! Must have been nice to have Mom around.

I'm always surprised by two things when I'm sick. First it surprises me how much it sets me back in my running. The first run I can't go nearly as fast as usual. Even when we feel well we aren't totally well. Second I'm surprised how quickly it comes back. By a week afterward I'm back up to snuff.

Hope it works that way with you.

Love to you,

Your bro

Oh Lybi, what a nasty infection! I was worried what happened to you, seeing no updates on your blog. Good thing you're over that now. You'll pick up your training quickly, just don't force first few days while you're still weak. You're obviously hooked though, if you're talking about taking a minute off your 5K time!
