I tried swimming on Saturday and remembered why I don't swim.  My skin hates, HATES pool water (cholorine).  I come away so itchy... a burning, prickely, itch that is positively maddening and causes me to drive home in a highly erratic manner.  I took a walk this morning.  It irritates my hip a bit, but not nearly as much as the stationary bike.  I also just needed to be outside.  My poor, poor dogs. I feel almost more sorry for them than I do for me.  We had a nice time outside today.  Then I went to get my X-ray and then to my first ever visit to a physical therapist.  Wow, electrodes are weird.  But man, do they know how to get to the root of where the pain is coming from and then electrocute it (both electrodes and utltrasound).  The therapist, named Steve Orrock ran SGM last week too. But he told me about his race in the rain and cold, and I told him about mine. And thenI talked a bit about HOW MUCH I LOVE RUNNING, and being outside--and we all but embraced and cried together.  But I'm always on the verge of tears these days.  Anyway,  I'm so glad he runs, and gets it.  I've been so afraid everyone (the doctor, the therapist, whoever) would just tell me to stop running. So I feel encouraged that the therapist feels confident that he can nurse me back to health and give me excersizes and stretches to prevent more injury-- that is, unless the X-ray comes back with a fracture....then he said positively no running for 3 months. I'm keeping my fingers crossed the X-ray was a formality.

Glad you are getting some good help. I have known Steve for many years, he's a great guy and therapist. Say Hi for me. Praying for a speedy recovery.

I will say hi to him for you when I see him again tommorrow. I'm glad you're confident of his skills. One piece of good news is that fracture and dislocation are finally ruled out as of this morning! That gives me a lot of confidence. Should I bother with the MRI, it seems they've located where the damage is, will seeing it on an MRI help any more? Do you know? Because I hate the doctor and I will avoid going unless I really, really, really think they can help. Thanks again for your thoughts and prayer.

Ask Steve if he thinks it would be over kill or an important diagnostic tool. I am so glad that you are not broken or dislocated :D GReat news for a beautiful freezing day!

Amen to the need to be outside! It cleanses the soul!

I loved the quinoa with the rice! It is FANTASTIC!!! You should try the recipe on my blog from Sunday. Potato and Eggplant. It was AMAZING!!! I am going to forward it to you and Josse. It was drop dead FANTASTIC!!!

Hey running partner! I finally broke down and did it and am now an official blogster and can keep up on your running here too. I am recovering from in-grown toenail surgery done last Saturday by Scott so I haven't run at all since the marathon but I am SO glad you are not injured and so excited to get started with another great training year! Rest up and lets run soon.

Catherine! My Catherine? This IS the happiest day of the last few weeks! I have to admit though, I'll be happi-ER once you move closer to the river so we can resume the Saturday winter running (reminiscent of year's gone by). Good luck with that toenail....But I have to say, that I am injured. I'm just found out via X-Ray that I'm not broken or displaced. But X-RAys dont show torn ligaments or swollen bursus. But I'm in PT and they, and all other seasoned runners are positive for recovery-- so I feel happier today than other days. Welcome to the Blog Newest FRB'er!!!! (

Luz!! I am finally getting around to catching up - sorry so late. I have been thinking about you. I am so sorry to hear about the race. I have dropped out of two races and both of them were devastating to me. The only thing I can say, is it sounds like you did the right thing (as hard as it is right now) and don't worry -- you will have more chances to run and race. I am VERY relieved to hear it is not something "broken". Mostly, I am feeling for you not being able to run right now - I know it is hard for you. We (I) are/am here for you - and like you regardless of whether or not you are running!! Take care!

PS

I have used ART (active release techniques: http://www.activerelease.com/) in the past with great success. I know that there are many other bloggers with different experiences (with different techniques), but this is the one that I have used with very good results. Dr. Brady (the famed Dr. Brady) knows this technique.

How is the physical therapy going? Are you seeing any signs that the healing has begun?
