I don't even want to know how slow I'm running right now, so I ditched the Garmin this morning.  But just to remind me how I'm doing is Sasha, cheerfully inviting me to run back to the house to run a few extra miles with Sarah-- as I used to do just for fun on Thrusdays and Fridays.  Then there's MattK, gliding effotlessly fast down the trail "good morning" he says lifting his hand in a friendly wave. Good morning for who? I think.  Then the three lady woggers PASS ME UP from behind with their arm-swinging power-walking.  No, not really, they didnt' pass me,  they were actually walking toward me.   But they probably COULD have passed me by.  The great news is, the phlegm has mostly vacated my lungs and I can now breath alright, and my energy is a little higher.  My thigh feels ok, but my butt and hips are still either tight or fatigued.  I may just try a long run on Saturday.  I'll see how tommorrow goes.  It has now been a month since I vowed to eat no refined sugar or flour, and no choclate (not even the pure dark stuff).  I have had a slip up only once or twice (hey, when a five star chef at a beach-side five star restauraunt in Nantucket offers you a complimentaly portion of his special new flourless choclate cake truffles with huile d' orange, you really can't say no, now can you?  Besides which, it didn't even contain any refined flour).  I've been back on the wagon especially since being home this week.  I wish I could sing accolades of eating pure sources of protein and complex carbohydrate, but I got sick and injured while doing so (it must be the missing chocloate).  JK, truth is, I'll probably doing this for a while to really get a feeling how well it works or how to make it work right.  A by-product of doing this however is that I've even been off most meat. It it just hasn't seemed appealing.  Anyone got a good serving suggestion for Mung Beans?

Mung Beans? that does not sound good at ALL! I'd skip those for sure :) hang in there my dear! Of course you are depressed- you just got back from the most wonderful vacation!!! It is to be expected ;D

OK, no mung beans. What do you suggest? You're always making yummy stuff. P.S. Anytime anyone wants to catch the ferry back to Nantucket, I'm totally game...

Well, not sure what mung beans are, but in general all beans are great with brown rice, salsa, and peppers... yummm! I know what I'm having for dinner tonight!

You did 6 miles! Who cares how slow? You're just getting out of being sick so GREAT JOB and pat yourself on the back.

Ok, Luz, you've inspired me... No refined sugar or cheese for me for then next 46 days, until I can run again. Deal! And I don't think anyone can blame you for slipping in Nantucket...

You'll feel better in no time!

I know! I can talk beans and rice all day. With fresh salsa or even just tomatoes or steamed greens, mmmmm. I'm not sure about no cheese though. I'll eat Feta on Salad and think a little cheese is a good thing. But maybe giving up 'cheese' for you is like my giving up 'chocolate.' I did lose about 3 pounds from just giving up the chocolate. I hereby challenge you to do it too. The one benefit I've felt is that I have less of an 'afternoon crash' in my energy. I think that comes from the complex carbs coupled with the no sugar (I do have use agave or pure maple syrup and some fruit juice for sweeteners). Try it and see what it does for you. I'm curious.

I am pretty boring :) But whole grains, fruits and veggies and a variety of lean meats & fish. Along with meats, I believe that chocolate is good for you. I am not a huge meat eater at all, but they are good for you in moderation. My favorite thing to fix is a huge crock-pot of beans (pinto are my favorite) and then eat them on corn tortillas or with brown rice, salsa and onions and peppers. Chicken is also yummy cooked in the crock pot with your favorite green salsa. Salsa makes the world taste better. I had eggs, scrambled with a sautéed onion this morning covered in Peach salsa. Ooohhh that was good. I am guessing that some of your dreary-ness is due to maybe a lack of variety and fun in the food you are eating, along with vacation withdrawal. Eating is a huge part of our lives and culture, and while you can subsist on mung beans and brown rice, it sounds so melancholy. Eat healthy and right, but spice it up. Many of the new whole grain pastas are REALLY good. Eating right does not have to be boring!

The previous comment sounded really "lecture-ie" I did not mean for it to sound like that :( Sorry :D

Lecture all you want....it's kind of in one ear and out the other these days....jk. I know you have good food info that's why I asked! And you do. So Thanks! I'll make a run for the peach salsa right now!

Yes, I agree that a little cheese is good, but I can't have any in the house or I eat it all! Chocolate is not that hard for me to give up... Sugar and cheese are my weaknesses... I'm a vegetarian mostly (I eat fish and eggs) so other than for the sweets, my diet is quite healthy. Thank you for the inspiration! I'll keep you posted on my progress...
