Running Accomplishments:

I ran my first marathon as a teenager in 1981 with my Dad (The Coronado Marathon). Since then I've run St, George (3x) Utah Valley (3x) Ogden (1 full, 2 halves) Park City (1 x) Boston Marathon (1x) Washington DC (1x) Moab Half Marathon (6x) ,Ye Old Freedom Festival 5 & 10K (a million x) and many others.

But I'm all done with that now.  I'm officially a jogger.

Short-Term Running Goals:

My running goal is to keep on keepin' on.

Jog into the sunset.

Guess who called me at 2:30 in the morning?  Go ahead and guess.....it was fastrunningmommy Sarah.  She said she would have to take a raincheck on our Saturday morning running appointment because....she was having the baby, and could I come get the kids!  So those cute little darlings of hers, so excited to be helpful and pleasant, loaded into my truck at 3:00 a.m. and came to my house and slept like angels until 7:00 a.m.  I couldn't sleep thinking of Sarah wondering how things were going for her.  Sasha showed up at about 7:30 with some soy milk for breakfast and news that William had been born at 4:30 a.m. weighing 8 pounds 8 ounces!!!!  Sarah fared well and everyone at home was fine.  And here was Sasha and Jeff standing in my doorway in their running gear 2 1/2 hours after the baby was born!   Jeff just said "Well, yesterday Sasha told me to come at 7:00 a.m.  So I came at 7:00!"  Well At least I had the kids right? Sasha said he'd post pictures later. At breakfast I asked Benjamin what his fastest mile was, he said something like 6:15, and announed that he could do that in his sleep.  My son just looked at him and said "yeah, well I ran a 9 minute mile with my Mom."  Benjamin just rolled his eyes. 

Unlike Sasha who kept his schedule without missing a beat, I won't be running until the afternoon.....I hope to get in another 3 miles on the treadmill.

I just came across your blog and noticed that we are suffering from the same affliction: ischial tuberosity. I had never heard that term before a couple of weeks ago. I ran the St. George marathon also in a lot of pain (probably not as much as you) and would have dropped out if it hadn't been my 10th time and I was determined to become a member of the 10 year club. Did your PT tell you to stop running? How do you know when it's ok to run again? Should you be entirely pain free? I struggled with this pretty much all this past year and I want to get over it and be well for next year, so I'm willing to take off as much time as necessary to totally heal up. It's good that you're able to run a little right now, because I don't think I can run at all, at least not with quite a bit of discomfort.

What a pain in the butt, as they say in PT. It sucks. I can't believe you made it through my epistle of pain. But yes, it has sucked. I can't believe you were able to push through it (but I probably would have done the same thing you did on such an important anniversary--or if I didn't think I was breaking my hip). The PT has me doing all kinds of terrible stretches and then doing a very painful form of release massage--which amounts to them putting their fist into the most painful muscles you didnt' even know you had and have been ruined for years by scar tissue and/or increasing rigidity. I wish I could explain here how those stretches work, but I can't. YOu'd have to have someone teach you and touch the places on your body that are supposed to be working. Right now I'm running like 2 miles, twice a day or 2 miles in the AM and 1 in the PM. I'm probably going about 13 m/m. It hardly seems worth doing, but it does keep me mobile and I stretch and stretch during the run. It seems to be working. Most of my earlier recoupertion was spending as little as 10 mintues walking fast on the treadmill. But again, the PT helped me position my body right so my knees were absorbing the shock and taught me to twist right in my upper body to defer additional pounding. It's all so hard to explain here--but do keep looking and asking....I am so grateful for PT, I'm not sure what I would have done if I didn't discover PT. I went to Steve Orrock at Orrock Mendenhall Sports Therapy. I am seriously overwhelmed with gratitutde. But I've heard theare are a lot of good thereapists. I'll be reading your blog to find out if you get any other good info. Stetch and keep mobile in the right ways without causing further damage (bikng, aquajogging, walking if it isn't just as bad). That's the gist of what I'm doing....that and time to heal. Good Luck!

Thank you so much again and again my angel friend. It was so helpful to have them gone for two days so I could get over the slightly traumatic start to William's life. I'm finishing off the licorice right now and I feel like a million dollars.well...right now anyway. I was overjoyed to read your report of your first run and actually really glad that we didn't keep that walking appt...you'd have missed out on your first run. Can we take a raincheck for a walk in a few weeks when I get my okay to walk? Have a good day and thanks again for your angelic assitance!!!!

p.s. I laughed so hard at the Benjamin part of the story it probably wasn't good for me...should we work on his over confidence problem?

I'm pleased I could be helpful. I enjoyed knowing your kids better. They are all so different from one another. It was fun to be the mommyhelper for a few hours(P.S. I still have Jacob's blanket and I'll bring it over later today). Sarah, You are so strong. I promise you, I could never do what you do. I look forward to some walking in the future. I'm glad you got good use of the 'medicinal' licorice! It always makes me feel better. Enjoy this gorgeous Sunday. I'm keeping my finger's crossed you're getting some sleep and rest....

Thank you for that info. I'll be following your progress also. My new motto is: I'll be fine in 2009. I'm hoping that's true for both me and you.
