Fun morning. Family drove to Lost Creek last night for our first ever camping trip. Kids had fun (as did I), but burnt tinfoil dinners and sleeping on a bumpy slope isn't the best pre-race routine. Haha. But good memories anyway... Ran 1 mile warm up, then ran/raced 18 miles on glorious single-track around the lake. Loved it. Only my second trail race--last July I ran a 50K just to cross it off my bucket list so it wasn't a race, just a run and accomplishment. Today was similar (I know my weakness and place in the running hierarchy at these events) as I had no expectations of winning or placing all that high. Although it would have been nice to place in the top three and get some $. But Max King showing up pretty much counts out any-and-all other human beings on the planet b/c the guy is a machine and wins everything he enters. Anyway, I knew the distance wasn't an issue, unlike last time, so I started a little faster and even ran with the top 4 for the first 5 miles, but then more technical single-track started and I was soon left in the dust. Beautiful course, fantastic scenery, slightly hot (much warmer than expected/usual), and VERY enjoyable. I would run this one again in a heartbeat. Very well organized and once again, I can completely understand why people fall in love with trail running. .7 mile cool down. Hips a little tight, but otherwise, feel great. Thankfully, no calf pain from the previous 2 weeks.
