Beautiful morning. I went walking on a different route and tried to run as much as possible (which is not much since I'm still just starting). Last Saturday, I was looking at the races in this area and I've chosen my first race: there's a 5K in 4 weeks that I would like to compete in and use that time as a benchmark. It's so interesting to have a goal! Instead of just running for an ambiguous "be healthy" goal; knowing that I need to be able to run a 5k in a few weeks makes me MUCH more motivated to get out the door and really train. I'm excited! This will be my first time to compete - EVER (in a sport - I've done musical competitions before).

Awesome Laura! I think it's a GREAT idea to run a 5K so soon. That way, you can see progress as you continue to race. Also, lots of people do 5Ks and walk the whole time, so don't worry, you'll be in much better shape by then than lots of people. I'm so excited for you!!!

Congrats! My family is getting so into this running thing it is intimidating! It is hard to run when you are nursing a small baby. Good luck. Mom

Very good. Glad to see the Farnsworth family getting infected with the running bug.

Good for you, that will be fun and you'll really see some amazing progress! Not to mention the motivation to get out the door sky rocket!!!

As for my daughter, she is 14, just started high school, She has a variety of medical problems but walks with a little bit of a limp? (I'm not sure if thats the best way to describe, but altered gait.) The hard thing for her is that everything on the outside except for the gait is normal and so sometimes the world isn't too understanding. But she's a tough little nut and handles things really well, inspite of all the additional challenges she has!!!
