A.M. Went into work early and then to mid-morning physical therapy. Lots of deep tissue massage again and I'm still sore from the massage on Friday. I also brought in all my running shoes for her to watch me run in. The best so far are my neutral-cushioned shoes (the Cumulus) with a red sole insert. She said I should retire the motion-control Kayanos because they aren't right for my feet and normal pronation. My right arch falls very slightly and causes a bit of overpronantion for the right ankle, but it apparently is very difficult to discern. She said I could keep using the GT-2150's for short runs only if I swap out the insert for the red soles (solftec response custom footbed). She also thinks maybe only two more weeks fully off of running! Yippee!

P.M. Cross-country skied the usual 3.5 mile hiking route. The snow was crap and I should have worn snowshoes. Varied snowpack and sticky snow with well developed ice layers in lots of places. Because it's been so windy (and was during the ski as well), there were patches of exposed dirt and rock.. not fun trying to turn away from those sections on narrow downhills. It was so windy in fact that our out trail was almost completely covered by the time we turned around and headed back. Quick upper body weight lifting session when I got home.

Gotta love those front range winds. When I was down there at Christmas, they were reporting the snowpack was way above normal in the high country. Has the front range been getting a lot of snow?

I signed up for the Golden Gate Dirty Thirty in Blackhawk in June. The 7 mile run. This will be my first trail run and I am so excited!

Keep up the great work! You are doing awesome with keeping in shape in spite of your injury.

Yes, the high country has been getting above average snow this year. However, I think we (in Boulder County) are experiencing one of the driest winters on record. We are a bit above the city of Boulder, up in the foothills near 8,500', but it's still been a very dry winter for us as well. Hopefully it shapes up to be a very wet late winter/early spring or else the wildfire season could be significantly worse than last year. I think there may be concerns about a quick snow melt this spring and flooding along the front range as well.. especially in the lowlands that didn't get much precipitation. We'll see I guess.

I've heard that the Golden Gate Dirty Thirty is a great run (both 7 miler and the longer race). Depending on how the knee issues go- maybe I'll think about running it too. Would be fun to meet up!

Thanks for the positive thoughts and encouragement on the training. I fluctuate from day to day on motivation, but I keep coming back and trying. I had graston done today and it was super painful on the mid- IT band area and around my knee. I always thought I had a high pain tolerance, so I guess it's a good thing there are some pains out there that keep me in check!
