I started running in the fall of 2007.  I truly believe I was inspired to start running and I have seen some very big blessings come my way because of following that inspiration.

Ran Boston Marathon 2013 & 2014.  My favorite PRs:  2011 at the SG 1/2 and 5K where I ran the 5K in 22:22.    2013 Nebo 1/2 (downhill) 1:36:15

Short-Term Running Goals:

Long-Term Running Goals:

Running throughout life with Tom. Staying healthy and happy.

Learn from others, learn from myself, work hard, do my best, enjoy!

On running and on life.....

On occasion we need to make a second effort - and a third effort, and a fourth effort, and as many degrees of effort as may be required to accomplish what we strive to achieve.

Well, I never again can say, "I have never ran a marathon!"  Because, I have now ran a marathon!  Quite a journey, quite a day!  A marathon is not a 26.2 adventure, it started several months ago.  I was hoping that all would be perfect for my first marathon, but that was not to be.  However, I feel so good about getting over that finish line that perfect doesn't seem to matter anymore!

We've been hearing that there would be rain and wind but everyone says, "Don't worry, they always predict rain for St. George, but it never actually comes."  Well, everyone down in St. George must have been praying and paying their tithing and they were blessed with lots of rain today!  How grateful they all must be!

It was fun to meet up with the bloggers last night.  I was happy to meet Razmataz, Cheryl, Peggy, and Shimelle.  I heard Tarzan had been there but I didn't get to say hi there.

I had a fairly decent sleep and woke up feeling good.  Tom, Terry, and I headed to the park at 4:45. As we walked to the buses we almost felt a little foolish to have long pants, jackets and blankets with us.  It felt almost too hot at that moment.  However, the rain and wind came along to welcome us to the starting line.  We were then glad to have the extra gear.

We had about an hour before the start.  Met up with a few other people.  I was glad that Christina and Tracy1 recognized me and said hi!

I started out on my own and really wanted to stick to my plan so I didn't burn out at the end.  I felt great .....until about mile 5.  Ouch...that's a long way from 26.2!  Luckily the pain I was feeling in my knee at that time was only warning signals.

I actually really liked miles 8-13!  The up hill felt much better on my knee.  I never felt out of breath.  And other than my bad knee, the rest of my body was feeling really good.

I was able to push through without killing myself until about mile 17.  It was there that the warning signal was now a lot more than a warning!  I really wondered at that moment if I would be able to hobble to the finish line or not.  I had to stretch, hobble, stretch, hobble for a while.  It was then that I was sent a little angel by the name of Christie!   She saw me and told me to join her.  She even walked with me for a bit.  She was doing some hurting of her own.  I was able to get a hobble/jog going there with her for a bit and was able to continue without walking.  Her and I traded leads back and forth, but I think she ended up coming in a few minutes before me.  Thank you so much Christie!  I may have still been out there at this moment if it weren't for you!  :o)

I think my favorite part of my whole marathon experience was seeing Tom waiting for me at the finish line!  A big hug and a warm blanket and a few tears...very nice moment!

Tomorrow I may add my splits and some more info.  But for now I am home with my kids and my bed and I think I want to be with all of them.  I kind of messed up my garmin a few times so I need to try to figure things out.

Some info for my records:  (me/all)  2351/5030 finishers, 790/2180 female finishers, 115/279 age group finishers.

2850 male finishers.

Kim --

WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!!! You did so incredibly awesome!!! You have been so upbeat and positive throughout this whole ordeal. That says so much about who you are. I am very impressed and happy for you!!

I hope you realize just how amazing you are and just how fantastic what you did is!!

A huge congratulations to both you and Tom!!!

From Andy on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 10:34:18

Great job and congratulations. The next one will seem so much easier. When is the next one?

From Kerry on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 11:13:43

Congratulations on fighting through the adversity to a great finish! After running a marathon you realize how our culture mis-uses that word by references such as "cartoon marathon" or "marathon of savings" or something equally ridiculous. Running that far even under the best conditions is a tough accomplishment. Running through pain, wind and rain to the very end is something you can always be proud of.

From superfly on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 11:41:00

Great job Kim. What an unreal first marathon. You'll have a few stories to tell thats for sure. Great job on always being so positive. Keep up the good work.

From James W on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 11:59:46

Congrats, Kim! What an amazing experience for your first marathon and first St. George marathon! Way to stick it out and finish in spite of the knee.

From lisa on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 12:32:10

SO IMPRESSIVE!! Great job on finishing a tough marathon. Your knee/IT band issues sounds so similar. I couldn't believe it when Leslie called and told me about the weather.

From Steve Hooper on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 13:10:12

Congrats on your Race and pushing it all the way!

From Mike Warren on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 14:02:52

Kim, thats an awesome first marathon. Without your knee problem, you would of passed me. Very proud of you sticking it out. I hope you guys had a great trip.

From tarzan on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 19:38:19

Kim - I'm so glad you were able to finish. That is an incredible feat by itself. Add to that the injury part and the insult to injury of the weather and I hope you are proudly wearing that medal.

Great job on finishing the marathon! It was nice to meet you Friday evening. I'm glad your knee held up well enough to let you cross that finish line. There's no better feeling than that. Maybe I'll see you next year!

Yeah, you did it!!! Im sorry to hear about your knee, I was really hoping that it wouldnt bother you. Im so glad to find out that you finished!!! Thats great, it sure was an adventure. Make sure you take some time off and let the knee heal. You deserve some R&R time!!!

From Dustin on Mon, Oct 06, 2008 at 12:32:56

Great job on finishing your first marathon, you did great especially on a cold windy day. I'm going to try to talk Sunny into running a marathon at some point.

From JulieC on Mon, Oct 06, 2008 at 13:59:22

Just had to be one of the many to congratulate you!!!! And what a first marathon to have to your name. A part of history. Great job!!!!

From Kim on Mon, Oct 06, 2008 at 14:23:15

I just want to say thanks to all of you for your comments! I want to print them all off and put them all around my house to look at! :o) It has felt good to have so much support in this effort! My good friend, Stacie, gave me a cute card that says "If grown-ups had show and tell...I'd take you so I could show you off and tell everybody how proud I am of you." It just feels good to accomplish such a big thing and have so many people out there to recognize the effort!

I think I want to run another marathon some day. Hopefully without the knee issues. Thanks again to all of you!

Oh ya, I love having people say "winner winner chicken dinner!" to me too!

From Terry on Mon, Oct 06, 2008 at 14:54:52

Great job on the finish. I've run 21 marathons and that was my only one with rain. If you do another one I'll bet the weather is better.

It was so great to see you and Tom together, reunited at the finish both having run the marathon. Not very many couples get that opportunity.

From Dale on Mon, Oct 06, 2008 at 16:09:52

Fantastic job on your first marathon! Quite an adventure!!!

From Kelli on Mon, Oct 06, 2008 at 16:39:02

I did not even get to say hi at the blogger party---you were talking to other people the entire time! But, it was nice to see you anyway! I chatted with your husband for a sec after I finished and then I got to see you come across the finish line and into the waiting area. I witnessed that nice big hug and it made me cry, for real. It was sweet. I turned around to someone who yelled my name and then looked back and you two were gone. POOF, just like that! So I did not get to congratulate you, darn it! But great job with such a stinking injury. You fought hard this last little bit and you are AMAZING!!!!

From Lybi on Tue, Oct 07, 2008 at 00:52:15

Congratulations! And what a marathon debut! Problematic, knee, dang freakish weather...it's all downhill from here, Kim. Every marathon after this is going to seem darn easy!

From paula on Tue, Oct 07, 2008 at 11:03:00

Im slow at the congrats but fabulous job. I am so proud of all you marathoners. You did such a wonderful thing and now you can be proud of your great accomplishment.

From leslie on Tue, Oct 07, 2008 at 15:59:45

I want to know how you are doing too! What is your recovery plan?

From Brent on Tue, Oct 07, 2008 at 22:14:44

Kim, 2,000 wet commando points, 1,000 for the first marathon and PR and another 1,000 for becoming a tough as nails runner. You are now forever a runner and a marathon runner. Cherish the day and the memory. The Golden ticket was cashed, you now own the Willie Wonka Chocolate factory.
