This race was crazy! Definitely cross country at its best. I wasn't sure how I would do due to lack of endurance, and I definitely felt it around mile 6. The rough terrain really started to get to my feet and ankles.  They got tired of being flopped around so much.  I got muddy, ran up hills that would have been faster to walk up, ran in sand, tripped on roots, and kind of took a wrong turn. Luckily I noticed we did it and called everyone back. At that point I was in third, and my friend Olivia was in second. Since she had a 15-20 second lead on me, she ended up almost a minute behind me because of the wrong turn. So I slowed down in mile 12 to let her get me. I figured all I wanted was a workout, and I wanted the results to be fair. She deserved it. I can probably subtract about a minute from my time associated with all of the confusion and waiting.

I'll have to get my splits later although they don't mean much on this course. We did run a couple of sub-7s in the middle, even with some hills in there.

The funny thing is my time on this crazy course was faster than my half marathon PR pace. I really need to run a good half to get that down. I decided to do the Hoover Dam Half on Halloween when I am in Vegas for my brothers wedding. I don't know how I'll run out there though.

You are so nice. Great job! Have fun at the Hoover Dam. Not too far from St. George where all the marathoners were at today.

Well, I am looking forward to that half! I do not think I could run over that dam (do you run over it?) I can barely drive over it.

Awesome job, and way to be FAIR. I have never heard of a runner being so kind, but it figures you would be the one to break that mold! You are awesome.

I don't know how you cross country runners keep from twisting an ankle! Great job on your race. Beautiful!

Great Job. That sounds like a really fun race.

Thanks guys, the race really was a ton of fun. We are all lucky that no one got injured!

Kelli- I just checked out the race. Looks like we don't go over the damn, just all around it I guess. I've never been there so I don't really know how to explain it. Apparently there are a bunch of switchbacks that we go down, get to the dam, then go up? Here's the link for more info :)

Allie recently ran a half marathon in Boulder City which is very very close to the dam.

I just looked up Allie's race. It's the same company that's doing your race - Calico. The races are very close in location to each other. Probably within a mile or two.

Oh my, though, that is a tough course with major switchbacks. When I went to AZ to visit Burt we drove that thing and WOW!!! Anyone who can run it is AMAZING! I can not wait to hear all about it.

To visit Burt. LOL!
