3.51

3.51 miles in 42:30 for an avg pace of 12:05/mi burning 327 calories.

Today's splits ---

12:18
12:20
05:37 (10:57/mi pace)

Achy run today with the calves being the loudest complainers. It felt like I was working extra hard to keep my pace in the target range. Everything eased out around 2.5 miles and I pushed the pace during the last 0.33 miles. Reached down to the mid 8 range. It's fun to flirt with those sorts of numbers but I am not ready to maintain that pace over any distance.

Three rabbits this morning and an equal number of joggers or walkers. For some reason I must have been looking skyward a great deal because I recall seeing several groups of what I guess to be geese flying overhead. Surely it's too early for migrating so they must have been local flocks moving from one pond to another.

You are the most consistent run blogger I know of.

Not that I really know anything but in my circles, school of thought is to flirt more often with the fast times, thus working your way toward being able maintain that pace for greater distances. I would do that myself more if I were able.

I'm just curious if you have heard that philosophy and if you disagree with it.

In any case, your running and blogging are impressive.

Thanks for the nice comments, Hildisvini.

I too have heard that you need to do a bit of speedwork to get your body accustomed to racing at the faster paces. Being a new runner though (less than a year) I have a great fear of injury from overtraining. For this reason I try to keep my faster paces to short distances and only as small segments of a larger workout.

Hmmm. I see. That may be exactly what I've done to myself -- overtrained. I'm going to have move on to low impact workouts i.e. no hard runs until I figure out what's wrong with my joints.
