12:30 p.m.  For informational purposes, I ran the last 5 miles of the marathon course with Dave.  Tami came to shuttle and check out the course.  I'm familiar with the first 20, and the remainder looks good.  The road has some twists and turns, but it's much more flat than the late stages of TOU.  Today made me concerned about the heat on Saturday.  Come what may...

9 minute pace, which was perfect for shaking loose all the weird residual aches and pains from helping with my son's Eagle project yesterday.

Ya Kam I'm really worried about the heat factor. It's suppose to be a high of 80 that day and finishing around 1 its likely it's going to be that temp for us. Murder!!

From Kam on Sun, Sep 23, 2012 at 22:39:14 from 65.130.101.98

The temp will come down. We'll be all right. 6:40 or bust....

From Tara on Sun, Sep 23, 2012 at 22:54:46 from 75.169.136.183

I didn't realize the race started so late in the day!

From Kam on Mon, Sep 24, 2012 at 09:41:19 from 68.66.163.179

10 am start. That was a big draw, when it seemed unimaginable that it could be hot. Tara, are you still up for pacing/dragging tired butts across the finish line?

From Lily on Mon, Sep 24, 2012 at 10:31:20 from 67.199.178.95

Is thus the Huntsville marathon? Oh, you've got this totally.

From Kam on Mon, Sep 24, 2012 at 10:36:38 from 68.66.163.179

Yup, Huntsville. The full monte. The canyon screamer. The eastlake dream. Not that I'm obsessed or anything...

From Russ on Mon, Sep 24, 2012 at 10:53:31 from 74.114.3.253

I love the marathon website and their list of candy to be shared. Kam, did you get in their heads? Awesome choices. Swedish Fish should give you a 10 second per mile advantage at the end.

GU supplied at Miles 5, 11 and 19.

Skittles supplied at Mile 15.

Swedish Fish supplied at Mile 23.

From Lily on Mon, Sep 24, 2012 at 11:33:11 from 67.199.178.95

So you guys know Lindsey Dunkley uses Swedish fish when she runs right? True story.

From allie on Mon, Sep 24, 2012 at 14:10:44 from 97.117.94.112

the 10am start is interesting, but i suppose it's better than 5:30am.

i think the temp will be okay. it's always a bit cooler in that area.

have a great taper week, kam. you're ready.

From NatalieK on Mon, Sep 24, 2012 at 17:02:03 from 24.2.101.184

Come what may and love it right? :) Good luck with the rest of your taper and most importantly your race this Saturday!

From Kam on Mon, Sep 24, 2012 at 18:34:52 from 67.2.120.239

A bit of warm can't be worse than the Boston heat wave, the Utah Valley windfest, or the 2011 TOU deluge. Come what may and love it, to be sure. allie, I included the Oxford comma just for you.

From allie on Mon, Sep 24, 2012 at 18:44:33 from 97.117.85.204

many thanks, kam (returning the favor with a direct address comma AND a parenthetical remark).

From Rachelle on Tue, Sep 25, 2012 at 10:22:39 from 199.190.170.21

Had I known this race was handing out candy I definitely would have picked it over TOU. Darn it!

From allie on Tue, Sep 25, 2012 at 10:24:27 from 161.38.218.168

but TOU is one giant piece of candy, remember?

From Kam on Tue, Sep 25, 2012 at 10:36:24 from 68.66.163.179

Rachelle, it's a mistake borne of inexperience. You have to consider travel distance, race cost, shirt quality, elevation profile, # of entrants, and CANDY AVAILABILITY. allie, I consulted this wiki page, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxford_comma and I'm not sure about the Oxford/Harvard comma anymore. They're seems to be a lot of disagreement.

From allie on Tue, Sep 25, 2012 at 10:51:29 from 161.38.218.168

yes, it's a hot topic, especially in our house where american english and british english often collide.

From Kam on Tue, Sep 25, 2012 at 11:00:08 from 68.66.163.179

Don't you mean, "where american english, and british english often collide."? (That is quite a punctuation mess.) By the way, since you are the princess of all things grammar, marathon, gu, and bowling, should the period occur inside or outside the parentheses? What is the correct term for a singular parentheses? This comment needs an editor.

From allie on Tue, Sep 25, 2012 at 11:11:05 from 161.38.218.168

what about the smiley face in a parenthetical remark? (it looks so weird like this :)) (and this way is just dumb :)

(so i think it should be this way) :)

as far as i know, the punctuation always goes outside of the parentheses, unless the sentence and the parenthetical comment require two separate punctuation marks, in which case it just becomes confusing. for example: i'm so excited you are running a marathon this week!(are you excited?)!? i think this means the parentheses are unnecessary/misused, which really hurts because they add so much value and side drama to a sentence. this is the best resource for all things grammar: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/apostrophe (make sure to check out all six)! :)

LOL! (LMFAO!)!!

From Tara on Tue, Sep 25, 2012 at 11:59:57 from 75.169.142.129

I am more confused than ever ( and that's not saying much, since I didn't go to college.)!:) From now on, I will refer to the both of you for correct grammar (and consult with none other, which means you'll be busy)!

From Tara on Tue, Sep 25, 2012 at 12:01:22 from 75.169.142.129

Therefore, is it okay to use a smiley face wearing party hat after a parenthetical comment?

From AngieB on Tue, Sep 25, 2012 at 12:24:10 from 75.162.189.226

Hu??!!??

From Tara on Tue, Sep 25, 2012 at 12:57:38 from 75.169.142.129

Shame on me for leaving out an example.

From AngieB on Wed, Sep 26, 2012 at 17:11:55 from 75.162.189.226

3 days!! How ya feeling??

From Kam on Wed, Sep 26, 2012 at 17:18:37 from 68.66.163.179

I feel punchy. I ran 5 last night and wish my legs felt different- hopefully by Saturday. The last three switchbacks tonight, then easy does it.
