Biggest Loser progression run.  I started at 6.8 mph.  Every commercial break I added .2 mph.  Last couple miles were 7 min pace.  I've given up the battle with my incline motor.  I'm better at cutting pieces of wood and propping up the front or back end than I am at making the actual repair.  I guess when I want some hills, I'll go outside.  My son told me the gym was wall-to-wall today, and I'm lucky to have my own treadmill.  He's right, even though it is a noisy POS.

Oh yeah.  For my birthday a few weeks ago, my mom gave me a trip to the running lab.  That's Thursday morning.  I'll be interested in what they have to say/suggest.  When I started running in 2008 the shoe store guy put me in a big clunky motion control shoe.  I'm a firm believer in the adage, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" so I've kept with the Saucony Omni series.  But, having run 400 miles in crocs in the last 4 months without injury, I'd say the need for such a shoe is past.  That said, I think I'd do well to find something in between.  My feet get sore from the little perforations on the crocs on runs over 8 miles, and I do think some impact absorption is a good shoe function.  But I think I can get away with a much lighter shoe without so much molded crap added to the heels and sides.

Luckily there are a lot more good options now (compared to a few years ago) for shoes that are lightweight with some protection/cushioning, but aren't completely overbuilt. I think you are right that if you can run in Crocs and not get hurt, you probably don't need a motion control shoe!

Thanks for the input, Jake. In your voluminous experience with all makes and models of shoe, do you have any recommendations? BTW, I still owe you breakfast...

Right now I have found that alternating the Saucony Kinvara and Mirage / Tangent (Tangents are now discontinued but I've found I really like the Mirage just as much) works well for me. I know that Nike and Brooks have some interesting models in the "lightweight and flexible" category as well.

Let us know what they say at the running lab!

Yeah, I'm very curious about this running lab!

Awaiting the running lab report!

Do you realize that Biggest Loser is 2 hours long?? And the commercials get closer and closer together at the end?? That would be a tough workout!

So, what did you think? I hate it when they send a couple home before they even step on the ranch. It makes me cry. For real.

I too can't wait for the running lab report. What a wonder gift.

After several thousand miles in Crocs, I pretty much hate shoes. A few days ago I ran in my Kinvaras. It was fun for a while but you really begin to appreciate the roominess of the Crocs. When I first started to run in Crocs I also considered trying a super cheap pair of running shoes on the rack at Wal-Mart. Surprisingly, they felt great. You might want to hit a department store and just try on the non-name brand stuff. You might get lucky and find something suitable for 30 bucks or so. If you're in a mood to destroy a C-Note, take a look at the Saucony Type A racing flat.

Kelli, that is one of the worst things on the show. I mean, those people have humiliated themselves and really come down to the depths to get on the show, then they give them the boot. And then there's always a couple of crybabies who want to come home right away...At least they get their shot to come back on.

Mike, I've really liked my crocs, but on longer runs my feet get a bit worn, hence the renewed shoe search. I ran in some mirages and kinvaras on wed; I liked them both.

SO, what do you think-will they lose the 50 pounds and make it back? I am not sure about the woman. It devastated her to not get on the show and she just did not appear to have it in her. But he seemed determined. I will cry AGAIN if they do not make it back. I cry every time I watch the show, which is why I could not run while watching it.

From Kam on Sat, Jan 07, 2012 at 03:56:25 from 67.2.32.74

I hope they will. I think he'll carry most of the weight and lose 30+ pounds and she'll pick up the rest..53 total.

From Kelli on Sat, Jan 07, 2012 at 10:09:51 from 71.219.84.120

I hope they will, too. She just looked so crushed, I dunno! 53, huh? I said to my friend, the only way they could do it was if he lost 40. ;o)
