not sure what to think.  guess i will keep my podiatrist appt.  i went out to run thinking since it didn't hurt too much walking on my foot maybe it would go away on a run like old times.  NOPE.  it got worse as the run went on.  blah.  i may end up with another steroid shot after all as time is NOT in my favor.  i can't afford to "sit" on this and see if it gets better.  blah.  AP 8:22 for 4 short miles.  UPDATE:  from an xrays point of view....no fracture.  : D.  got steroid shot which definitely WAS different then the one from my GP.    it was an entire syringe of white stuff!!!!  ouch.   i had a bit of a panick attack just before the shot.   the nice nurse let me crush her hands.  my dr thought i was funny he said to the nurse " she can run four hours in a marathon but she can't handle the momentary pain of this shot".  yah, we know runners are weird.  i was hopeful just after the shot but currently my foot is sore and when i just got back from 2.5 hours of grocery shopping (yay not 3 hours!!) my foot was tired/sore.  mainly sore on the side of my foot where i have run on to avoid my painful plantar area.  kind of funny.  the rest is numbish so that may why that stands out.   crossing fingers.  i decided a blessing is in order.

So so sorry to hear this Julie. Go to the appointment and at least hear what they have to say. You have worked too hard to not run Boston.

Lets get you better. Time doesn't matter at this point (there will be many more marathons in your future) but you deserve to run Boston!!

rachelle, got the steroid shot. he definitely knew what he was doing. since he does surgery there all the time he told me "I just visualize your plantar because I see them all the time and know right where to go" where as my other dr. is just a General practice physician.

I agree with Rachelle. Xtrain to your heart's content. Maintain your fitness. You have come this far and you really are ready to run a marathon EVEN if you sit on it for the next few weeks. Spin and water jog if you can bare it. When I was injured I would water run and I even listened to my ipod while doing it. If you have an Ipod shuffle you can clip it to a headband and wrap the cord around the headband. Just some suggestions.

Hang I there. I've been lucky so far... Lots of ice bottle rolling, massage, strassburg sock, soft orthotic inserts, ibuprofen.... Chronic pain stinks! Hang in there.

Glad to hear nothing is broken!! That is good news. Sorry about the shot in the foot, I think the foot has to be one of the most painful places for anything like that! I am always amazed when i see people with tatoos on their feet----OUCH!!!

Cross train like a crazy woman, I know you will! Things will be back to normal soon and I bet your body will be HAPPY for the little break and rearing to go.

Eat a few cookies, too. I find that always helps!

i would run a marathon over a shot any day. i would also run a marathon over public speaking, or jumping in a lake full of ice, or tying a quilt...

I was happy about the no break via xray but then he added "if you are not at all better by next week, I want you to have a bone scan to look more closely as xrays are not as defined". But crossingfingers. Went to spin class today. Experiencing another "cortisone flare" which make me think why the crap did I get the shot--- it hurts even worse than before the shot-- but is supposed to wear off after two days. If those goes away by race day I have NO doubt I will be chomping at the bit...but if it still lingers it PLAYS with me both mentally and physically just too much that I will have to tone it down to a 3:30 marathon or slower. At least that is still faster than 16 years ago!! It would a be painful but doable with adrenaline on board. BUT I am holding out for the pain free run!!

Sorry to hear you might have to run a "slow" 3:30 marathon. I just hope to run a 3:35 at my upcoming marathon. You make me smile.

Even if you have to tone it down, the crowds will carry you. Enjoy your Boston. :)

Julie I'll pay you a dollar per mile if you'll come back to my wave and help me get a 3:23 (7:45 pace). Thats a full 26 dollars and 2 cents richer you could be if you chose to run with me. :) Think of all the fun we could have!

Rachelle--- you are so funny. hmmmm... let me think about it.... btw you should see me in this boot. But guess what (and I don't want to get too excited) I took it off after being in it for three hours and sat on my bed for an hour drifting off to sleep reading the Ensign...I awoke and was like "I wonder what walking will feel like" because basically it has been painful with every push off walking or running and to my UTTER surprise I could feel a bruise where the shot went in but NO pain with push. Like my foot USED to be. IT was like I had forgotten how it would feel pain free. Two weeks of this pain and VOILA....but not to get my hopes up too soon I buckled the boot back on and it is still on since. I am taking no chances. I think the cortisone flare wore off and I am on the mend but I in no way want to jinx myself. But it was for those few moments of walking a glorious moment of HOPE. It is hard to describe. So any of you praying for me THANKS TONS!!! AND RACHELLE....I so want you to run a 3:23 but I honestly think you can run a 3:20!!! so don't disappoint!! :D and if I get my tushy back there you have NO choice but to run that pace if my foot shows up on race day!! Remember Halloween Half??? :D.

Now BEC ONCE you break the 3:30 barrier it all comes by experience/perspective. Trust me I looked at 3:30 for a long time thinking....no way. But since I run most of my long runs at 8:00 pace or better I have no excuses now. EXCEPT that I could be wearing a boot (two would be better to equal myself out) and I was thinking some ski poles would really help too since my boot feels like a down hill ski boot. : D.
