Ran a training run with Jen.  Her first 16 miler.  She is training for the Ogden Marathon.  Her goal is just to finish.  She ran well today.  After not stopping the first three miles we stopped at each mile and walked about .7-.1 miles before running again.  Her AP with all the stops ended up being 10:19 (we did stop our watches for our 5 minute water break and 5 minutes potty break, so that is not included in our AP).  We left at 6:01am and got back at 8:54am.  So total time gone  2 hrs 53 minutes.  We ran up to Alpine from PG and back.  I have to say running slower than usual seemed almost harder on my joints than faster.  My cadence was off.  But I sure enjoyed the company!!  The miles did seem to pass quickly and the weather was quite agreeable.  I ran 1.15 miles to her house (she is only .5 miles from my house but I wanted 18 today so I ran longer), then I ran the same route back with a little cutoff to make it 18.15 miles.  My AP for 17 miles was 10:01.  The last mile helped the AP quite a bit.   Later I went skiing for $20 each at Sundance thanks to BYUs basketball game over a week ago.  We went from 1230 to 8:30 pm.  Night skiing was so awesome.  The lights in the dark on the snow was quite the sight.  I was so very tired at 6:30 that I had go inside and rest for an hour.  I was so wiped out.  I have been getting up at 3 am every night not being able to fall asleep so I think I need a good night of uninteruppted sleep.  My cold lasted 2 1/2 days.  I nipped it in the butt very quickly.  So glad.

Stick with it, you will get used to adjusting the cadence! I think it will pay off in the long run....at least I know it did for me!

Hope you get some sleep!

Kelli- I am running 18 miles with her in two weeks....I hope you are right : D. But it was rather fun to run with her. She really ran quite well even with all the walking.

I can't even comprehend training for an ultra. I just hit 16 miles and am happy, I survived. How am I going to do it???? Your night skiing sounded Wonderful...was it warm? My 6 yr.old thinks that it sounds so fun but I am afraid we will be too cold.

it actually felt warmer at 8pm then it did at 6pm. The whole day was quite warm. This is the PERFECT time to go night skiing--Spring skiing is the way to go. I HATE TO BE COLD IN THE DARK. But it was quite enjoyable. The kids were bummed we made them quit at just past 8pm. It goes til 9pm. We skied right to our car, as we parked up top as we were directed. PERFECT!! Plus arriving there at 12 noon allowed me to get my run in, take Mel and Kim for breakfast (belated Christmas present) and still have an hour to spare. The sun was toasty. I didn't wear my gloves for the first few runs and just a head band.

I did get tired of the walking breaks with the longer distances....my body was not used to it at first. But, I promise, you will adapt and start to really enjoy it! Now I can run about any pace between 7:30-10:30 pretty comfortably. Anything faster or slower is downright painful, though. ;o)
