I will TRY to be brief.  Went up yesterday and met Josse and stayed with her and Ericka.  We had a fun time "trying" to sleep well.  They ran the half.  I met up with McKenzie and Aubrey at the start.   Ran my own race.  Goal to be at 7:15 AP until mile 14.5 then pick it up.  Sounds good in theory but at Ogden it doesn't really work that way.  Not sure if I took it slower earlier on it would even help at all.  Let's just say that at mile numero uno I knew this would be a mind over body ordeal the entire way.  My pelvis and lower back felt like they were going to snap at any moment.  I would use my hands to hold up my butt and that would alleviate the pulsating nerve pain in my butt cheeks.  Eventually that pain would move to my hamstrings and slowly but surely the pain wore on me and the last 2.7 miles were  utterly without spunk or drive.  I kept telling myself that Kim would not be impressed right now but I would answer back in my head that I didn't care.  She is not here and it just doesn't matter.  Certainly if I pick it up my sinews would unravel and I would collapse.   After two doses of ibuprofen and an ice dip in the AF river I am now walking normally no soreness.  I just have this pulsating  nerve pain from my  lower back to my pelvis and butt cheeks and groin.  Eeeks.  It reminds me of labor pains.  But that's enough whining.  I ran it and I didn't give up.  I soooooo wanted to be done at mile 14, 15, 16- 26.2.  In fact my garmin read I ran 26.36 miles in 3:15:25 that's a 7:24 pace!!  I must have been swerving all over the place  : D.  Really I started my watch before I crossed the chip line when the gun went off.  Oooops.    Here are my splits:   7:22, 7:20, 7:09, 7:03, 7:08, 7:15, 7:10,  7:12,  7:22, 7:14,  7:25,  7:18, 7:21 (not sure on half way, probably 1:35:45 to 1:36, will see when they post splits on the results),  7:31 (pelvic pain really burning), 7:47 (that uphill),  7:28,  7:24,  7:08 (briefly I saw my pace at 6:24!!, never again ) ,  7:07,  7:22,  7:30, 7:23,  7:08, 7:37 (crashing on the river trail once again, can't take these rolling hills and laid back walkers and biker crowds),  8:11 (I just don't give a darn.  I hurt like you know what and I am PRing already.  I could walk a bit and still PR here.  How's that for giving up mentally?)  8: 18  (even 23 week PREGO women are beating me this mile, right Josse?!! : D).  Last .2 unknown as I ran .36 miles at 8:13.  Geez at least I picked it up a little.  The last mile reminded me of Disneyland's Haunted Mansion "Is this room actually stretching?  or is it your imagination? and how about this perplexing question?  how do you find a way out?  This could be re-written as "is the finish line really a mile a way? or is this road actually stretching?  your imagination?  YES.  Is there a way out.  Perhaps.  One foot in front of the other baby!!  Oh to cross the finish line.  A glorious moment!!

Well done, way to go. Looks like you passed me on the mile after the hill when I started to fade. Yep, got to love that trail. I hit it when a huge group of walkers with dogs covered the entire width.

From rockrun on Sat, May 15, 2010 at 21:40:22 from 63.248.153.155

hey great job on gutting it out... my Garmin read 26.37, and I started and ended right as I crossed the pads??? Maybe I was swerving all over the place too... felt like it at times.

From Smooth on Sat, May 15, 2010 at 22:25:08 from 174.23.172.155

Julie! You know you're a winner in my book! WAY to fight those negative thoughts and painful butt cheeks. Your sentiment on the last stretch is so funny and fitting. Yep, haunted house at Disney Land. I have yet to find one single soul who did not c/o about the winding, clustered parkway trail.

Hey, you ran a 4 min course PR! That's nothing to sneeze at. The field was stacked deep today and you had an excellent performance. I am SO PROUD of you! Sorry I didn't stay to chat during your moment of "brain freeze"; had to keep walking off w/ hubby or charlie horse would hit.

BEST of luck at Squaw Peak! You're in tip top shape.

From seeaprilrun on Sat, May 15, 2010 at 22:52:07 from 205.172.12.228

Nice race Julie! You still ran a sweet time and placed first in your age group! It takes a lot of stamina to run crazy fast like that despite being in pain but you are Julie the beast and did it anyway! I also really enjoy your inner dialogue about the last few miles--I think we've all been there before! Such a joyful moment to be over that line and done for sure! That is crazy that you are not sore--looks like you will be primed for squaw peak--I am so excited to hear that race report! Pat yourself on the back for a job well done and recover well! Geez with you I wouldn't be surprised if you went and ran a half marathon pr tomorrow LOL!

From MCKENZIE on Sat, May 15, 2010 at 22:55:02 from 75.169.113.135

WOW what a great race report, I feel nervous to write one because I never know what to say but yours is good, I should just Copy and Paste your and change a few things...Way to go today, it was fun to se you at the top!

From JulieC on Sat, May 15, 2010 at 23:09:25 from 71.219.44.64

copy and paste your time to me would be great : D I knew I needed your body today. You ran so well!! Just make sure your entry has some mention of pain in it!!

From JulieC on Sat, May 15, 2010 at 23:11:48 from 71.219.44.64

April, I am sure the lactate gods will work their wonders tonight while I am catching up on Zzzzzsss. Goal in 1 1/2 weeks, back to back 20 milers at a nice and easy pace all over the countryside. That's all the training I have planned now that I am officially in. Thanks for all your support everyone!!!

From crockett on Sat, May 15, 2010 at 23:30:33 from 71.36.64.205

Plenty of hill training at an easy pace will really help. That is what I'm going to do for the next couple weeks. Running fast on the flats won't help much more. You already have that down. The climbs and descents are the real challenge at Squaw Peak. Finding a good dirt road up a mountain will do the trick.

Good run! I wish I was there to see you PR! call me later!

From Bonnie on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 01:24:22 from 64.119.33.134

Julie -- awesome race report -- you stuck it out and did great! It sounds like you had a "head injury" but the body seems like it was in top form! Very proud of you!

From Walter on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 01:37:00 from 24.10.169.110

Great running! Awesome report. I always love the photo of the lake behind in the back ground of Ogden!

From JulieC on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 09:10:14 from 71.219.44.64

...interesting news..the new timing system has everyone at GUN time. I don't think everyone crossed at the same time. All the splits are off. Last year the timing was perfect except the strap around the ankle causing a big blister last year. This year the timing was a bib. I almost missed some timing pads and it looks like I did based on the results sheet along with plenty of other people. Basically this means I really did run a 3:14 because I know I was running an AP of 7:24 not 7:27 and that it took several seconds to cross the start. Yippee!!

From Teena Marie on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 09:56:52 from 174.52.45.85

You, young lady, are AMAZING!!!! I can only imagine what the crowds thought as you were adjusting your buttocks!!!! Oh man ... you are so so so tough!!!!

Am in awe that you can run that fast in those conditions.

Please take care of yourself.

A HUGE CONGRATS!!!! :)

From allie on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 10:33:19 from 67.177.0.102

aweseome race, julie! way to fight through the pain and finish it out. congrats on the course PR and a very solid time. you are going to have a great year.

From JulieC on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 10:40:47 from 71.219.44.64

Allie, thanks for the super awesome sign!!! I felt undeserving for I was so not running the pace I could have down that canyon!! I did briefly speed up for you though. So glad you didn't see me at mile 25!!! I picking myself up by the boot straps however and not going to let this get me down. I really ran a 3:14:14 based off my garmin time (had to subtract the overage I ran)!! So I am glad about that. Three weeks and its my first 50 miler.

From jtshad on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 11:44:03 from 69.20.183.178

Great job, congrats on a strong run. Good luck at the 50 miler!

From Kelli on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 12:40:23 from 71.219.75.178

There is a lot to be said for not giving up, especially in that much pain. I am super impressed with your race, in pain or not!

Glad you are feeling somewhat better, TAKE CARE!

So, were you literally running while holding your butt cheeks up?

From JulieC on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 13:02:49 from 71.219.44.64

LOL Kelli!! Yes one at a time sometimes both. My "biker seat" bones down there were aching like I had just biked a 100 miler or something-- I stopped doing that at the river trail,,,,because then the pain was everywhere, I couldn't reach all the spots then : D

From JulieC on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 13:07:51 from 71.219.44.64

Bonnie, totally true about the "head injury". It mostly comes out in Ogden. St. George Marathon is more my style.

From runningafterbabies on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 13:24:37 from 67.177.9.74

I am really impressed with your race, Julie. A CR is always something to be proud of - and you did it with some major obstacles. Nice race!

From Kelli on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 13:30:32 from 71.219.75.178

From RAD on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 20:53:56 from 67.172.229.125

Julie, you really did look strong at the finish! I was with Josse and Ericka as you came by - I'm glad they were able to point you out to me!! You ran an amazing race with pain and all! GREAT job on the new hardware and a new PR! Keep up the inspiring work!

From MichelleL on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 21:55:07 from 67.41.166.22

Great race report! I'm so impressed with your time, especially given the pain you were in. I need to run with you to keep me on pace! You're amazing.

From JulieC on Mon, May 17, 2010 at 16:45:27 from 71.219.44.64

just in case you are all wondering rigor mortis set in last night along with about five pounds of swelling. My feet sure did not look like my feet after sitting down at my sisters for dinner last night along with card games!! However this is probably the least sore I have been in a marathon.

From Aubs on Mon, May 17, 2010 at 18:39:51 from 67.199.177.208

Hi Julie! Thanks! you did an awesome job yourself. It was nice to see you up there and get to chat. I'm sure I'll see you around!

WHOO HOO! Julie you are a ROCK STAR! Holy cow! You held it together SO well. You are TOUGH as nails. KimR told me that you won your division. WAY TO GO! I hope you bum gets a grip soon and feels better :p
