Drove to the head of the new trail and ran up 2.5 and back.  5 @ 9 pace.  Felt very NON-RUNNER-like.  Aching back and bilateral butt nerve pains (double sciatica) due to vacuuming and cleaning the windows of our basement yesterday.  Carpet is currently being placed.  So much for good air quality... new carpet smells so wonderful to regular people, but unfortunately not myself.  I stuffed my nose with tissues to avoid breathing in the fumes.  It works to fiend off the headache.  I am seriously trying to get serious about being serious.  Seriously?  Really I have all these running plans, one in particular and then I go running today and think, seriously?  are you joking?  26.2 miles at 7:10 to 7:15 average.....reality check....reality check....Mr. McFly!!  I am sooooo dated.  I am just going to go by feel.  If it happens, it happens.  I promised Kim I would make my muscles burn by the end, so that's in the stars already.  Went to Good Earth and picked up some goodies...but really Good Earth is NOT so good Earth.  The smells in that place get me in a coughing fit.  What is it with all those not-so-green fragrances in there?  They are worse than any grocery store.  On to better subjects....Running, Resting, Eating, Hydrating that's what I am trying to do.  I soooooo want to weed my flower beds but I am trying to hold off and not make me have some hamstring issues pulling those things up.  I already over did it yesterday but I have time to recover.  I am still as of yet driving up on Saturday morning at 330am.  My mom arrives tomorrow from Arizona and I haven't seen her in 6 months.  I see her twice a year sometimes once.  She won't be coming to see me run though as my sister is here also so we trade off having her at our homes.  I think about coming up there Friday but  I don't sleep anyway the night before a marathon.  The drive should be about 1 hr 10 minutes since I will have the road to myself.  Roll call for buses is 445am!!!!  They all pull out at the same time of 5am!!   Last year Melanie and I missed the busses.   Quite the hoot as we sped up the mountainside to the start breaking thru barricades etc... and we even were staying at the 13 mile mark up there.  Pretty funny if you remember that story : D.  We got there in a 20 minute to start fashion.  Can you imagine if I actually slept and missed getting up for the race?

Be confident Julie--it will all come together. Your training has been very very solid. You have put the miles in, you have put the tough speedwork in, you have put in some killer tempos--you are ready!!!

From allie on Thu, May 13, 2010 at 23:48:13 from 67.177.0.102

no second-guessing yourself! you are ready. really, i know that it's easier said than done, but keep the thoughts positive.

i stagger four alarms to go off every two minutes on race morning. of course, i am usually awake before the first one even goes off because of nerves, but it is nice to have a back-up. best of luck julie. you will do great. can't wait to cheer you on as you speed by!

due to some very UNforseen competition I am just trying to PR at Ogden. Holy Moly the best of the best is showing up at this thing....and sorry I am NOT that caliber...yet...Crystelle, Mischelle, Anna, to name three that will outrun me for sure....but I hope to talk to them...Crystelle and I became friends at the end of SGM last year. She came in just before Amber. Anna won Ogden last year and now is 40 and Mischelle came in third overall. I will dig as deep as my psyche and physique will allow me. There is also a few others I noticed from last year on the list that ran quite well. Geez...can't have it easy can I ? Oh well...I will have a blast PRing at least with the pressure off now :D

Hey Allie, just got your message after writing my last comment. Thank YOU!!! I will need it. Your CLEAN water I am counting on with some gatorade : D May my last mile be a fast one!!! : D

From allie on Fri, May 14, 2010 at 00:03:32 from 67.177.0.102

yes, this race will certainly be competitive, but great competition brings out the best in us.

really, nooooo pressure. "stay loose, stay relaxed" is one of my favorite mantras.

btw, i have a new race assignment now. i went to the training yesterday and they had an ABUNDANCE of help for the aid stations but they needed more people to help "monitor" the traffic in the canyon. so i will be anywhere from mile 18-21 (with an orange vest and flag!) i'll be watching for you. sleep well.

and Yes positive thoughts...I so remember my first marathon and trying to BQ at SGM 95. I hit the half way point and realized if I didn't pick it up I wouldn't qualify. I felt soooo good for holding back and I took off at mile 15, never hitting a wall and coming in at 3:34 an 11 minute negative split. It was sooooo awesome!!! I just want that feeling back again and I sense that feeling again trying to get out of me!!

From JulieC on Fri, May 14, 2010 at 00:04:56 from 71.219.44.64

I will look for you in the orange vest : D

Good LUck! You will do great! You have trained well! I am sending you vibes. The whole run tomorrow I will be sending vibes. So when the miles get tough I will be sending them. Push hard down the canyon! You can fly! Believe in Yourself! Doubt Not! Fear Not!

Allie, are you also in charge of WATER SAFETY?

From JulieC on Fri, May 14, 2010 at 14:02:34 from 71.219.44.64

Last year the water at mile 17 on was certainly NOT drinking water : (

From JulieC on Fri, May 14, 2010 at 14:03:54 from 71.219.44.64

I know you remember and I think that's why your leg gave out after mile 17....poisoned water.

From allie on Fri, May 14, 2010 at 15:12:17 from 67.177.0.102

yes, i definitely remember the poisoned water. i will do my best to make sure it is not contaminated in any way this year! magic water...from the fountain of youth!
