mizuno precision-- last summers   hee hee.  too cheap to buy new shoes with huge payment for car repairs and carpet cleaning and I JUST CAN'T seem to FIND the RIGHT shoe for me!!! arghhh!!!  I tried two pair and had to return them.  okay--- after carpet cleaning guy left our carpet was wet longer than he said and I got seriously fatiuged smelling only a light cleaning smell.  I fell asleep at 945pm and was comatose until 630am.   But then I had to vacuum the carpets (yup who knew the carpet cleaners really just surface the dirt-- my vaccuum got a lot!!!  My carpet look like new however and this is the first time cleaning them since we moved in 7.5 years ago.  Soooooo when I finally got out for a run around 1030am each mile I got achier and achier (is that even a word?).  Now all my joints hurt including in my wrists and fingers so I am sure it from the fumes, since I have chemical sensitivity.  Man that run was hard fighting off the urge to want to lay down and not feel all the joints in my body complain.  AP 8:12 for 9.51 miles.  Got a little too far from home and figured if I ran I would get home faster.  Shoveled in food as I arrived as my body started to shake from apparent low blood sugar.  Took two ibuprofen, hoping that will tackle the joints well enough.   Gee whiz!!

haha when your FINGERS hurt, its probably due to something unrelated to running :-)

seriously jake I feel like an old lady when i talk about my finger joints achy but they do!! I am not going down without a fight however. My latest insanity attempt has not been officially blogged about-- I am running the Grand Slam next year. Yup, gonna do it. On that note toning it down over the winter is my objective and then starting up midFebruary to March. I figure a PR at Ogden then "jog" Utah Valley Or vice versa depending on how I feel. Any advice is welcome. Not looking at this as a contest for me against others although it is possible for me to place in the top three or even get first in the 40-49 age bracket. I don't know who all has signed up except Josse, McKenzie and Kimberly (she won it the last two years). I am mainly running it because I feel that insane again and it gets me in to SG without wondering if I got in, waiting til May and the lottery spits me out.

I think you are definitely smart to stay in "maintenance" mode as long as possible before ramping up for Ogden. Its a lot of marathons and if you do it right (ie. you aren't totally fried by May) you can go for a PR in Ogden and then again at StG... and you won't just be hanging on for dear life in October :-)

I think as long as you stay healthy, you'll do really well with this. Its the sort of racing challenge that requires you to be a little crazy to begin with :-)

even though I am taking it down a lot in mileage should I still do any speed?? or a tempo?? just wondering how often and how much?? if at all. maybe every two weeks some one minute on/offs??? with a short tempo the opposite weeks??

From Jake K on Fri, Oct 19, 2012 at 13:19:44 from 155.100.226.191

Yeah I don't there's any hamr in doing some "light efforts" - mix it up... fartleks / on-offs / short tempos. It keeps you from getting that "stale" feeling. Once a week is probably good... but I'd give yourself a little bit more time before starting that.

You really are crazy!! ;) Shoes are so tricky, good luck finding one that works!!

I agree with Carina about you being crazy. But I love it and wouldn't have you any other way. :)

I'm glad your running the slam. I mean you pretty much run 4 marathons a year anyway so you might as well make it count.

funny Rachelle-- yah in 2011 I ran Utah Valley, Sogonamit (Eiluj-style), Top of Utah and St. George (in 3.5 months!!) and it was all for fun!! :D. I sure hope I can revive that fun!! I really got to get to the gym and see if I can even handle the elliptical!!! When I grow up I want to be like Rachelle!! :D.

Carina-- my insanity lies way beneath my running!!
