First let me I do not even feel like I worked out today.  Not even an incling that I ran speed today.  No soreness no tiredness.  This was my 530am morning: To the BYU indoor track.  Haven't run there since the early 90s.  Met JulieE, Josse, Melody, Desiree and Emily.  Plan was 4 x 1600 (5 laps) with two lap recovery.  Didn't go as planned.  First of all I warmed almost 1.5 miles before I saw the others.  Then I ran 1.5 miles with them.  Roughly 3 to 3.5 miles warmup. I started losing count of the laps.  I stopped to get a drink while they kept running their warmup and when they came around again apparently it was time to start the 1600s.  I pretty much had no warning and my watch wasn't even cleared and I was facing the wrong direction.  It was kind of one of those nightmare race starts you can think of.  Glad it wasn't a race!!  I turned around and Melody, JulieE, Desiree, Emily and Josse were already 1/4 of a track ahead of me when I got ready to go.  I don't like to start speed unprepared.  I didn't even stretch.  I felt out of it.  Finished first mile in 6:14 (probably faster, I started my watch more towards the stairs and stopped it at the line. I kept forgetting that part on the first two miles).  It was hard to gauge myself with five laps instead of 4 laps mentally.  I was slowing and speeding up a lot.  The second mile was pretty funny as again as I almost neared them on the two lap recovery they started before me and then suddenly  (after the others passed the ROTCs, but not me) the coach of the ROTCs told them to get on the track RIGHT when I was about to pass by.  They realized I was coming after a few moved to the side and they would tell one another to move over but it was quite distracting wondering if any of them would move.  This mile was 6:22.  The third mile was even funnier.  A rather old guy was on the inside lane. Oh well.  I stayed up with Desiree (mainly because I finally started with someone from the group.  I tried to pass her but then some others got in the way and I was yelling track but nothing came of that so I just stayed behind her.  About three laps in I was mentally beat from OVERSTIMULATION on the track, not to mention the carpets that were just cleaned and quite perfumy at every lap.  They had the fans blowing the lovely air into our track.  The fifth lap  I tried hard not to give up.  I wasted time weaving into the second lane to pass Desiree and thinking about having one more repeat to run.  This mile was a 6:22.  I was in the mindset we were running another one but to my surprise "waiting while running behind them after our two lap jog...noone started running fast....okay maybe we are resting three laps??? Nope.  Okay..."hey aren't we running four??"   I should have just run the last one.  I always do the worst on the third one because I know I have one left to conserve for.  Instead I ran three miles of cooldown.  Let me say I probably WON'T be doing SW indoors again-- too crowded and overheated and smelly.  I do like that the track tilts on the curves however.  I need the four lap track.  It is a mental thing.   I really wish I ran better.  Next time.  There are few things that slowed me both on and off the track today.  Won't dwell on them (one being I should have worn my altras on the soft turf).  Should improve next time.  :D.

PM:   To the rec center with my family.    Felt fat as we ate Kneaders French Toast (homecooked) just 30 minutes before running.  Bones creaked the first two miles so started at 9:31 pace for about 1/4 of a mile.  Ran four miles (AP 8:49) then rowed for about 7 minutes then ran another mile at 8:43 pace.  Five miles.  I was just starting to feel good, like I was a runner again.  I am SO   DONE WITH EATING JUNK!!!  It makes me sooooo moody!!!!   DONE I SAY!!!

What time are you guys starting? We have to get a child to a birthday party but I am not even sure what time that is! I will check into it all today. But, I just do not know if I can keep up. Speed is not my thing right now at all!

I don't like running on indoor tracks either. Too small... I like the symmetry of 4 laps to the mile... and being outside!

Looking forward to the run this weekend!

Great workout Julie and nice double. I absolutely love those easy peasy night runs after a tough workout.

Kelli - please come and run with me this Sat. I need someone that is willing to run slower so I don't end up in my death bed trying to chase all the speedsters.

From Kelli on Wed, Feb 15, 2012 at 14:50:30 from 66.29.181.130

Is that a SLOW promise, Rachelle??

From JulieC on Wed, Feb 15, 2012 at 15:05:52 from 71.35.248.211

I am in a running slump...so slow this weekend sounds good but since I am the master of ceremonies I got to be back to start assist with breakfast :D. I am running the 20 miler. Jake, maybe you should check out the changes I made for Allie--- the 20 miler extension to make her a 22 miler.

Kelli- This 20 miler is one you would want to run nice and easy--however the last 5 miles or so will be downhill :D. I am planning on adding water/gatorade to mile 8.5, and mile 16ish. There is also water running continuously in Alpine at mile 12. Jake if you want that water you have to veer off course. I better change that part of the course so people know where that fountain is. It also has a bathroom. I know you speedstars don't need it but us stragglers just may!!

Suggestions about following the course--- STAY On the left side of the roads at ALL times!!!!!! (if you are running the 18 miler you have to JUST briefly at mile 12.5 run on the right side due to the shoulder and possible oncoming traffic but then after nearing the top of the hill switch back to the left side. OTHERWISE everyone please stay on the left side of the road for the most part. I don't want anyone killed on my clock (from a group run I planned). Kelli, the run starts at 730am. Sorry it was a compromise. My husband is making the pancakes/waffles but has to coach soccer practice at 11am. He is oughta there when breakfast is still going on. A clean getaway I guess ; D. PS should I be under the impression that everyone wants either 20 or 22 miles now???? I am going to change the 18 miler I have posted to the 20 miler. The 22 miler is listed as ALLIE'S 22 miler. see you all Saturday. Any questions or comments are welcome!!

From JulieC on Wed, Feb 15, 2012 at 15:07:29 from 71.35.248.211

btw if I have time I am going to mark both courses!! I will mark them from the left side of the roads :D

From JulieC on Wed, Feb 15, 2012 at 15:10:49 from 71.35.248.211

Jake-- the indoor track is so very small at BYU. In fact you can't see the entire track. There is a room in the middle so it even more annoying and people just shoot out of no where. There was a group of about 40 ROTCs too!! not for me. I thrive on long runs in the mountains ALONE-- not a crowded track trying to run SW. I am so ready for a 100 miler!! :D

From Jake K on Wed, Feb 15, 2012 at 15:14:46 from 155.100.226.54

Thanks for taking the time to set all this up for the weekend. Looks like we should get some good weather so it will be great.

40 people on an OUTDOOR track would be too many!

From Rachelle on Wed, Feb 15, 2012 at 15:23:59 from 199.190.170.22

YES Kelli that is a SLOW promise!

Thanks for all of the organization Julie you are awesome! I finally talked myself into looking at the elevation profile and I think (key word "think") I can handle it. :)

From JulieC on Wed, Feb 15, 2012 at 15:41:56 from 71.35.248.211

Rachelle, I just tweaked the 20 miler so that it runs by the ETERNAL water fountain-- where it BOXES off in Alpine it is right of main string before we head east then north again ;D.

Allie-- I will tweak yours too.

From JulieC on Wed, Feb 15, 2012 at 15:56:39 from 71.35.248.211

Rachelle, It is nice to look at the course in Satellite mode. It feels like we will be running in summer as the trees are full of leaves and very green!! : D.

From Kelli on Wed, Feb 15, 2012 at 17:19:19 from 66.29.181.130

WHERE are the views of this course? And Julie, will you PM me the info? I would be happy to bring OJ or chocolate milk or whatever (napkins? plates?)

I have looked everywhere for the details---what am I missing?

From Smooth on Wed, Feb 15, 2012 at 17:40:58 from 174.27.202.70

I am so jealous! You are finally planning a run close to my neck of the woods and I can't run! STINK!!! Where are you posting the course? I like to see it.

From Smooth on Wed, Feb 15, 2012 at 17:48:34 from 174.27.202.70

OK, I saw it!!! Very cool route!!! Looks like a ton of fun!!! :)
