Quick report- felt ok first 70 miles of race- not great, not bad.  Pretty even with few highs and lows.  I had come to terms with having just a mediocre race, edging in the top 10.  Split at 55 miles indicated 19:45 finishing time, well behind my 18 hr goal.  Started feeling better miles 70-80, then really came alive at 80 and felt great the last 20 miles.  Moved from 7th place up to 3rd in 10 miles, then held off some late charges to stay on the podium, despite going off course and going swimming in a lake twice (literally- long story).  Hard to describe how good I felt the last 20 miles.  Sure makes racing fun.  In the end, a good run on a great, beautiful course with lots of nice people.  And training buddy Jason finished his first hundred, too, in a very respectable 21:19.  Full report... eventually.  But I've run 100 miles and slept 0 hours in the past 40 hours, so I think I'm heading for some shut eye.

You were smokin' those final miles Jon. Congrats to you and to Jason.

Congrats man, nice work. How many 100 finishes is that for you?

From Jon on Sun, Nov 03, 2013 at 18:57:01 from 107.203.52.135

Paul- that would be 4 finishes.

So a negative split 100 miler?! That's not too shabby. Congrats on moving up to the podium with a fast finish.

To feel great the last 20 miles of a 100 has got to feel awesome! Congrats on a great race.

Great race Jon! Very impressive to move up to 3rd in those last 30 miles.

Nice work Jon! You can really do some damage feeling 'on your game' late in a 100 mile race like that--clearly you did. If you figure out what the hell happened at mile 80, please share with the rest of us. Congrats on top 3!

Jon, I don't know much about trail racing but enough to say Congratulations!

Thanks, everyone. Kendall, I think the improvement was due to the bacon I ate at mile 75. Only solid food of the day. So, bacon is the key.

From Kendall on Thu, Nov 07, 2013 at 09:43:28 from 208.187.252.10

Ah, bacon strikes again. Je10 is the queen of bacon, she swears by it. (she make bacon gel!)

Congrats on your podium finish and somehow arranging to feel peppy the last 20 miles of a 100. Something tells me it must be a bit more than bacon.
