New Concept:  Stop running before more pain sets in.

I had decided that it would probably be a good idea to stop running while I was still feeling good instead of  running until I was in pain.  So for the next little while I am limiting my miles.  Three it is.  The first mile is all warm up and trying to feel good.  The last 2 felt pretty good.  I was wearing  a patella band and it did not eliminate the twinges but my form was much better, very little limping.  So a windy, slow, low mileage day for me.

Jody, you are a brave girl, chucking the diet coke, that is my vice. I read your comments, it is tough not to run when your addicted to running. When I got done with my run this morning, the knee starting getting stiff. I asked myself, just don't run for a week or two? It is so hard to just lay off running. I know your pain. I may skip the stiders 10 miler this saturday, as you may skip the spectrum 10K. Hope your knee gets better soon.

WOW!!! Threw out the Diet Coke....I can't believe it - good for you. Just find something else to replace it in your life - Matt found Propel and he's addicted to it now. I'm really proud of you - and you didn't even mention it on the phone. I really hope you get feeling better soon. Until then I would love a good walking partner any time!!!!

You're trying to get through a depression WITHOUT the diet coke- wait- are you sure?! Just kidding. Good for you. Sorry you're not going to make Spectrum, I know you're bummed. I'm doing it but I'm not ready! Haven't run all week- yikes! Take care of that knee! There will be more awesome races coming up this year!

I'm bummed that you won't be running on Saturday but it is best that you rest and take it easy. You are better than me. I can't give up my Dr. pepper. Although I do try to limit myself to wednesday's and saturdays.

Jody - it sounds like you have a good idea there. Everything I've read in the last couple months as I've been fidgeting and whining to go back out on the roads is "steady as she goes"; coming back after an injury, usually err on the side of caution rather than ambition. At least this is what I've learned. When I tried to run too soon, I got painful inflammation. Now, I'm slowly progressing pain free. Though that is not to say I will be pain free every day. You just need to take every run with a grain of salt and see it as an investment in the future. I have the utmost in faith that you will succeed with this injury and you're in my prayers! Wishing you the best of luck and don't worry (I know first hand that you aren't the only one who has had a grumpy/whiny blog) Im probably more guilty than anyone especially in the last two months, lol.

Keep blogging. Keep running. Keep monitoring. And keep on smiling ! :) Spring is almost here!! You can do this!

Cheers. ~Benn~
