WOW!  I can now say I have run a marathon.  What an awesome experience. All of last winters running outside in crappy weather had paid off because I had no worries or fears regarding the weather.   However, there was a little mishap right before the start.  I checked to see if my  GU's were okay and they were, however as soon as I passed the chip mat I felt my pockets and they were all gone but one.  I decided not to panic and worst case scenario I would only GU at mile thirteen.  I was so happy at mile 3 when the were giving them out and I stock up and held on to them and ended up dropping one along the way but grabbed another at the next stop.  Here are the details:

Mile 1: 8:36 - right on track and feeling good, trying not to panic about the GU

Mile 2: 8:24 - Feeling good - See Dean from the BBK.

Mile 3: 8:04 - Still right on track and loving it!

Mile 4: 7:58 - More of the same

Mile 5: 8:03 - Ditto

Mile 6: 7:52 - Ditto x 2

Mile 7: 7:50 - Getting ready for Veyo hill  - See Jamie and Linday Kryling

Mile 8: 9:37 - Veyo Hill - OUCH!  I wasn't as worried about this as I was the miles just after but it kicked my butt!  THANK YOU  to Koby from the blog for not letting me walk and keeping me going - YOU ROCK!  We ended up running together until mile 13.

Mile 9: 8:57 - Starting to fall behind the pace but I am okay with that because I do not want to push at this point.

Mile 10: 8:44 - Just working up the hill

Mile 11:  8:45 - Keep trucking up the hill

Mile 12:  8:25 - Oops! more hill than I thought

Mile 13: 8:05 - Half way point!  YEAH!!!!!  This came fast!

Mile 14: 8:45 -  Trying to still keep it slow and no pushing yet.

Mile 15: 8:00  -  Calfs start cramping and they never went away but I survived.

Mile 16: 8:14 - Feeling good.

Mile 17: 7:57 - Winchester Hill - I began being my own motivational speaker and cheerleader at this point and for the remainder of the marathon it went like this " You can do it! You are strong!"  Repeated over and over and over again!

Mile 18: 8:25 - Going up the hill

Mile 19: 8:20 - Enjoying the run and really starting to feel good

Mile 20: 7:50 - Decide to let myself go and have fun - Maybe a little to early.

Mile 21: 7:41 - Lovin' it!

Mile 22: 8:21 - Getting ready to see my family - Gotta look good!

Mile 23: 8:03 - 5K to go and happy to see my family cheering!

Mile 24: 7:58 - Feeling okay but really having to push to keep my pace down

Mile 25: 8:19 - Hanging on, legs are tired and hurting.  My blurry vision is coming and I am trying to keep seeing.

Mile 26: 8:44 - Hitting the wall!  So happy I made it this far before this happened.  For those of you that have seen "Run, Fat Boy, Run"  I just tried not to have a Dennis moment.  Focusing on the finish and getting there.

.2: 2:29 - Do not  want to fall, trying to stay upright and get across the finish line.

This was a great experience.  I learned I need to spend more time running hills but I am so happy with my time and that I Boston Qualified!

Congrats to everyone who ran today!  Way to be tough in the rain and wind and persevere!

Way to go Jody! I knew you were going to have a great race no matter what mother nature threw at us! I actually didn't mind the weather too bad myself. I think I would prefer what we had to having an overly hot day! Besides, having weather like that makes it all even more exciting to tell people! :o)

From Tom on Sun, Oct 05, 2008 at 11:21:18

What an AMZING first marathon! All your tough work totally paid off. What the heck is all this "Lovin' it" at mile 21? WOW! You're awesome attitude and consistent training must have produced that result. I haven't read that on ANYONE else's blog, even the elite. You are awesome.
