I ran my first 20 miler today with Cheris and Michelle.  I was very nervous because last week did not go well and I knew that they would keep the pace going.  We started at 5am and ran through South Jordan, Riverton, Bluffdale and Herriman.  It ended up being a great run!  I am a little sore but not bad.  My knee did really well.  I had a few weird pains that I am not sure what to do with, but it was a great run.  I came home and did an ice bath for 12 min and stretched.

I signed up for TOU yesterday so it is official.  No more maybe, we will see, I am committed - unless I magically get into SGM.

Ave Pace 8:47

Happy Running!

Very nice Jody! I think I saw you this morning as I was driving up to the capitol.

So are you going to try the TOU Half next week? I love that one. I PR'd on it last year and its a really pretty canyon. Thats cool you made it 20! Good Job, and you had help from Cheris and Michelle!

From The Howling Commando on Sat, Aug 16, 2008 at 12:44:18

20 MILES?!?! I have to say I had to take a double triple take when I saw that! How awesome is that! Way to go JODY!!! AND What's most impressive is the AV PACE -- 8:47!! You go girl! What a fantastic long run! I'm jealous!

From Kelli on Sat, Aug 16, 2008 at 12:52:34

WOW!!! That is a great pace for 20 miles! You guys did awesome.

So, how did you FUEL for that long run? That is something I have not mastered. Did you carry water and such, and how much? Did you find potties??

I wonder how we missed you if you headed into Herriman (I speak as if Herriman is really small!) Where out here did you run?

Again---SPECTACULAR JOB!!! I am impressed and jealous. I get green with envy at everyone's abilities!! YOU ARE FABULOUS!

From Jody on Sat, Aug 16, 2008 at 13:06:13

Thanks guys!

Walter - I am doing Hobblecreek. I am kind of wishing now I was doing the TOU 1/2 to prepare but I was already signed up for Hobblecreek.

Kelli - I use a fuel belt with 3 bottles and then we GU'd at mile 7 and at 15. We took a bathroom break at mile 10 at the gas station at 134th and Bangerter. Most of our Herriman time was spent on 134th.

Sounds like you had a great run! Have a great weekend.

From walter on Sat, Aug 16, 2008 at 13:15:06

Well good luck to you next week then! Ill probably see you before then.

From MarcieJ on Sat, Aug 16, 2008 at 13:51:18

So glad your 20 miler went so well today! TOP 1/2 is nice but Hobblecreek is so much funner, I think more competitve too, alot more runners at Hobble...plus its kinda tradition for us now!

From Jody on Sat, Aug 16, 2008 at 13:53:08

Marcie - Tradition trumps everything else. I cannot wait to see you!

From walter on Sat, Aug 16, 2008 at 14:01:25

Did you know that TOU half gave away over $10,000 dollars in prizes away last year. I got a $120.00 pair of Smith glasses, my wife got the same pair, my sis in law got a Ipod and they gave tons of other great stuff out like gps watches, gps handhelds, a freakin Treadmill! I have never seen a race ever give out as much stuff as TOU does every year! I think that motivates me more than the crowd. They actually had 1000 runners up there last year.

From Kim on Sat, Aug 16, 2008 at 14:09:28

Yeah! I am so happy with your 20 miler and for registering for the marathon!

Are you planning a tapper for Hobble Creek? I think I am looking forward to a little more of a relaxed week next week!

From Jody on Sat, Aug 16, 2008 at 14:18:05

Great job! I don't think I've ever been able to say I enjoyed a 20 miler, so you guys were awesome. Maybe one of these weeks if football starts a little later I'll be able to join you for a Saturday run.

From Cheryl on Sat, Aug 16, 2008 at 14:22:38

Oops, I think I wrote your name in the blog name line. It was really me who made that comment. Must be a long day already for me, and I haven't even run yet.

From Kelli on Sat, Aug 16, 2008 at 16:03:58

134th scares me until you get to about 4800 West. There is no side of the road to run on!! We were only on 134th from 4600 West to our subdivision (about 5100 west---behind Kneaders!!! NUM NUM).

I do not like the fuel belts, I can not get used to them. I did buy a hand held water bottle and I like it okay. It has a zipper for Gu and stuff. We will see how it goes when and if I ever do a long run!!

Again, Jody, you did awesome today. Those times just amaze me! You are gonna kick butt in whatever marathon you run. I did TOU last year and I loved it---it is very pretty! After St George I will let you know which one I liked better---and that will be the ONE a year I run from here on out!

From Kelli on Sat, Aug 16, 2008 at 17:33:29

I did the TOU full marathon---I do not remember any prizes? When do they do it?

From Brent on Sat, Aug 16, 2008 at 23:24:45

Jody, crazy excitement, 100 points for your first 20 miler. I don't remember any prize give aways last year at TOU marathon. But, they do give some Kool moose trophies 1 thru 5 in age divisions. The first half of TOU marathon is much like Hobblecreek, not quite as fast. The real race starts at mile 18 as you move up and down for the last part of the race. Your having a great running year, who would have thunk it when I met you and Paula at the SLC 5k Winter series. It has been great to watch your improvement.

Stay Kool, Mooooooooose, B of BS Rools out

From walter on Sat, Aug 16, 2008 at 23:36:17

Oh sorry Kelli, I meant the TOU Half marathon. They did give away a treadmill at Tou marathon last year, you have to get an entrance number at registration and be present to win. I know Chris Siddoway and Heather Housley that direct the Half marathon and they do an incredible job getting sponsors like Als sporting goods to kick in some nice items.

From Kelli on Sun, Aug 17, 2008 at 16:22:36

Yeah Walter---but you would think they would have even BETTER prizes at a full marathon! I did not stay for the award ceremony, maybe that is why I missed it!

And Brent, they have a pretty cool moose medal for the rest of us, too! Not as cool as a trophy, but still cool! And, I agree, it is a beautiful race, although the 1/2 misses the first6 or so of the canyon, doesn't it!

You will have a blast Jody and you will do AWESOME---I have seen you run, girl!

From walter on Sun, Aug 17, 2008 at 18:36:17

I always thought the marathons should dish out more prizes and that! As far as the moose trophies yeah they are pretty genuine. I had to change the decorations a bit on my fireplace to accomodate the moose theme! The half marathon trophies are the same exept they are on a limestone rock with a kokapelli style looking runner on them. They are just as nice as the St. George trophies!

From Christi on Sun, Aug 17, 2008 at 21:58:10

Great job on the 20 miler! And a 8:47 pace- WOW! You're doing great! You are so good at taking care of yourself post run (icing, massage, etc) I need to do that more!
