We went to the rec center to run on their treadmills today to avoid the single digit temps.  I did 6.18 there and then came home and finished .82 on my treadmill to make it an even 7.  Not a great run, my hip was bothering my and I just really do not like the treadmill. On the bright side, it made the outside not seem so bad, so we will be back outside tomorrow.

Good job Jody! I saw your race schedule--you aren't doing Painters or the Striders half. Darn, I'll have to wait until St. George to meet you. Unless you change your mind...*hint hint*

Sorry about your frigid temps! Hope it warms up for you soon. On the plus side, running treadmill always makes me pay attention to my form (but as I recall, you have great form!) Take care of that hip & knee!

Jody, some treadmill games, they get me past some boring miles.

1) Run your normal pace, at every lap crank up the pace from say a 7.0 speed to a 8.0 speed and count your steps on the left foot for "40 steps" then slow back down to your 7.0 speed. Practice doing this every quarter. You will be surprised that it is not as hard as you think and gives you some quality Sasha striders.

2) Another good mental excercise, if you feel tired increase the speed from say 7.0 to 7.1, I know this sounds crazy. But, this is good practice for race conditions. You will be surprised how often it helps to pick up the pace.

3) Lastly, complete a progressive tempo type run. Start at your easy pace and increase the speed every quarter or every mile by .1 and see how far many times you can keep increasing the pace. When you get out of gas take a break and either go again or just slow down the pace.

These types of runs usually take little recovery and can improve the quality of your run and future races.
