I had planned to day to do 3x1 mile hill repeats. We have a hill near by that the elevation is similar to that in the hill at mile 18 at TOU. It measures 1 mile long and has an elevation gain of 332 ft. I ran the 1.3 warm up and then began the repeats. The first one wasn't to bad, there wasn't a lot of traffic and it was still dark. During the second one the traffic picked up significantly and it created a pretty good head wind. At this point my legs were feeling really tired so I decided to forgo the third repeat and just finish with easy miles, so that I would not completely trash my legs for Hobblecreek. On my recovery back down the hill, I knew that if I did not do the third repeat, I would be pretty angry at myself the rest of the day and the guilt would set in. So I decided to do the third repeat but not focus on the time as much as the completion. The third was tough, because the wind (from the traffic) had picked up but I focused on just making it to the top. My splits were:

8:53

8:50

8:47 - YEAH!

I am so glad that I stuck with it and finished - lesson learned!

Happy Running!

I finally got around to starting a family blog - I know I am way behind the times :)  It is pretty basic but I am going back and adding our summer to it.  So far I just posted my India trip.  The link is hintonsheadlines.blogspot.com

Listen to you---a real runner! You set a goal and you did it. YEAH!! I am so not that way---I quit when I am done (and sometimes earlier!) Cheryl, Peggy, and my husband got to see me walk for a sec on a hill today---when the running slows down so much that I could walk faster, I would rather walk!

And I am doubly impressed that you did such a hard workout after your 20 mile run Saturday! WOW!!

Here is a quick question: When you do the long runs, do you stop your Garmin at lights, potty breaks, refueling, whatever??

From MarcieJ on Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 17:53:31

Jody right on! You are getting mentally so tought! That is so great! I cant wait to see you too this weekend, it will be so much fun!

Kelli- I know you asked Jody the question about the garmin but I have mine set on auto/pause so when I stop at lights or break for the bathroom it automatically pauses for you. But if we stop at water breaks and walk just a little I stop it myself. I turn the autopause off in a race so if I have to stop my time stays accurate.

Thanks, Marcie. I will take answers from anyone, doesn't matter who! I didn't know about auto pause, but my dumb mode button has never worked (6 months after i bought it I tried it for the first time---DA!! Then it was too late to return it.) Guess I need a knew one so I can do all of the cool stuff!

Thanks for the insight Marcie! I always stop my watch at lights and potty breaks and have felt a little guilty about it because it is not continuous like racing, but I feel a little bit better about it now.

Awesome job Jody!! Way to stick to your goals. I'll be doing hill repeats tomorrow.

Jody, 50 commando points for the third repeat, I expect you will use those on saturday, with purple hair and without Haze and Jimi.
