AM - 4 miles.

PM - 6 miles. USATF XC 5K - 16:22 (4:55, 5:10, 5:15, 1:02). Kiwanis Park, Provo. Standard 2 up / 1 down w/ Andrea.

Ran in second place and just got towed along for pretty much the whole way. A young kid took the first kilometer out fast, and then I ran behind Riley the rest of the way. I halfheartedly made the attempt to pass him with about a mile to go, but quickly realized I don't have the racing grit for that kind of thing and he immediately gapped me again. It was really nice to have a couple guys pull me along at a good pace, though.

I'm happy with (and honestly a bit surprised by) my current fitness level - I should have a shot to finally win the turkey trot in Connecticut if I can get myself to dig a little deeper (easier said than done).

That's pretty quick. Nice!

Love the USATF dude in the picture. Those straw hats kill me. Like it's Chariots of Fire or something.

From SlowJoe on Sun, Nov 15, 2015 at 16:30:34 from 107.77.66.56

Keep dreaming big Jake, and that turkey trot trophy is yours!

From Jake K on Mon, Nov 16, 2015 at 05:41:16 from 67.166.113.191

The straw hat/ red jacket guys are worth the price of admission. They take this meet seriously!

Joe - the turkey trot we're doing has no prize money or even decent awards, just obnoxious looking trophies. I want to win it, then "forget" to pack it and leave it for my aunt to find and discard.

Rob, I know you are joking about the USATF guy... but I can't even handle those dudes. I have so much rage building up toward them I can't stand it.

From Jake K on Mon, Nov 16, 2015 at 15:35:10 from 159.212.71.173

PRO-TIP: A pitcher of mimosas and/or a medium-quality box of white zinfandel is the antidote to USATF-rage.

From Glory in the long run on Mon, Nov 16, 2015 at 20:18:26 from 75.162.179.202

Ditto the USATF. I'm all for taking it seriously, but when serious means starting the race 4 times (Murray Invitational) and being spectator un-friendly it's time to exchange the straw hat for a pitchfork.

From Holt on Mon, Nov 16, 2015 at 21:31:42 from 67.2.237.234

Jake, even that can't take off the edge when a bunch of old dudes who have too much pride to admit when they are wrong take away a state title from some high school girls. Bitter much? Yup!

From Rob Murphy on Tue, Nov 17, 2015 at 05:50:32 from 24.10.247.181

I avoid them as much as possible Dave. When I'm adding a meet tho the schedule I'll even get in touch with the meet director and ask if they have USATF officials.

It's the reason I stopped going to the BYU Invitational.

Utah county seems to love them.

Nice race! Sounds like your body is responding nicely. Probably needed some rest, rehabilitation, and lower mileage. You are running really well of current training.

I really want to run a cross race, even if it means one of those dudes is there.

From Jake K on Tue, Nov 17, 2015 at 12:16:31 from 159.212.71.199

All those things, plus the daily Quintuple-P regimen (Perfect Pushups + Perfect Pullups + Probiotics) that I've been shredding for the last couple months, have certainly helped.

To be fair, I never really stuck w/ any true "rehab" ... nor will I ever, which is why its important that I continue to run more conservatively and never get injured again :-), but my body bounced back nicely once I took the toll of "training" off it for an extended period of time. If I stick with lower mileage all winter, I'll be back to 24 years old by next summer!

I bet you can find some good open XC races in Philly in the fall.

From Rob Murphy on Tue, Nov 17, 2015 at 14:05:48 from 163.248.33.220

So, Jake, what you're saying is that you prefer habilitation to rehabilitation?

I'm with you on that.

From Jake K on Tue, Nov 17, 2015 at 15:32:19 from 159.212.71.17

I almost blindly agreed, Rob... then I looked up "habilitation" and it seems just as bad as doing rehab exercises in a gym, perhaps much worse!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Habilitation

What's the word for doing whatever outdoor activities you want, whenever you feel like it? That's the one I like!

From Glory in the long run on Thu, Nov 19, 2015 at 07:30:20 from 75.162.179.202

The word is "living" Jake. It's what we used to do before we got so fancy with our entertainment and transportation. Can't help but think that we fail to realize the double edged sword so much of our technology is. So many people think ancient man was backwards and behind. The truth might rather be the opposite. Sure, they couldn't call across the world. Instead, they wrote on rocks because what they had to say was that important.

From RustyTF2 on Sat, Nov 21, 2015 at 12:58:12 from 75.169.241.185

Solid race! I think the young guy was John Coyle... graduated from Weber state in 2013... good (~8:50?) steeplechaser!

From Jake K on Sat, Nov 21, 2015 at 16:45:22 from 67.166.113.191

I know John, he ran much more sensibly... the kid who went out fast was from Provo HS. Or was just a huge fan of Provo HS and had one of their uniforms.
