Tour de Run, Stage 1, 5K - 15:40, 2nd place

I took it out quick, Josh McCabe and Chris Rushing followed close. Hit the mile in 4:52 and Chris dropped back by 1.5 miles. It was down to Josh and I, which it what we probably both expected. The middle portion of the course was a windy trail through a forested area and around a pond. A fun course (reminded me of Thanksgiving Point). We ran the second mile in 5:00. The third mile has a short uphill stretch. We were running side by side through there, but Josh pulled ahead in the last quarter-mile and won by 0.8 seconds. Third mile was 5:08 and then the last tenth was 39 which seems kind of wrong, but maybe one of the other miles was short. Doesn't matter, this is racing, not time trialing.

Stage 2-3 report here

AM - 4 miles.
PM - 8 miles (3 up, race, 2 down).

Sweet run Jake.

My 5Ks are slowly creeping down to my half-marathon pace :-)

Good Luck. It's sure fun to watch you really fast guys!!!!

What marathon will you be using to qualify for the 2016 Olympics?

From Jake K on Sat, Jul 13, 2013 at 08:37:28 from 174.251.19.10

Ran 32:42 for the 10K, on a very hard/hilly course. 16:34 at 3 miles and then 15:04 for the next 3, but Josh ran great up the hill and held on... He ran 32:28. So I've got some ground to make up on the last stage!

Tom - I won't be qualifying for the OLYMPICS anywhere :-) but I'll take a couple shots at the trials standard this fall - probably two half marathons - San Jose, long beach, or Vegas. And then I'll run the CIM marathon in December.

You and Josh have had some great battles lately.

Nice race Jake. I think your last 1.5 weeks have been great. Some solid races and great altitude/hill running. It doesn't all have to be fast. You've gotten some different stresses that are great for distance running. Looks like your headed in the right direction!

From Holt on Sat, Jul 13, 2013 at 12:09:16 from 67.2.248.128

Tis sounds like a fun event.

Jake, every race I do is marathon pace - 1600m up! My team always gives me a hard time about it.

Excellent work for the first 2 races, Jake! Go do some more damage in the last race.

Great race Jake.

You're wearing my favorite pair of shoes in that last picture.

Thanks guys. I put up some more detail on this one and added my Stage 2/3 report in a new entry. Josh ended up winning overall by ~10 seconds. It was a really cool event.
