AM - 17 miles. Layton Classic 10K - 5:15, 5:35, 5:35, 5:05, 4:56, 4:59, 67 = 32:33. Short races during the bulk of marathon training are always a crapshoot. My strategy was to stay out of the lead but within striking distance for 5 miles, then hopefully go for the win in the last mile like at TOU. First 3.5 miles were slower (mainly uphill), then I put in a short surge to break it open. Steve took the lead from there and I followed 5-10 meters behind. At the 9K mark I made my move and passed Steve... then 200m later I got taken by surprise when John Coyle came past me. We didn't put enough distance on him and Jason during miles 4 and 5! I didn't really have enough fight to kick and John won comfortably. Overall a good effort and workout before tomorrow's long run. 3 up, 8 down.

PM - 8 miles.

Good effort. Like most people who train primarily for the marathon your 5k-10k times are only a few seconds faster per mile than your short distance distance races and your 15k-half are generally your best races distances (and you'll exceed predictions based on a Daniels or McMillian calculator) and the marathon is, well, the marathon. Some days are really good, some are bad.

Still a great race Jake without the W. We should get a summit county run in soon now that leaves are starting to change.

I figured I'd run ~32:30, and wasn't necessarily expecting the starting line to be moved back 200-300m from last year. I think the course must have been pretty short before. It's not easy - has about 200 ft of climbing, but the second half is a flyer, as you can tell by the splits :-) So I'm happy - I'm adapting well to the mileage and workouts - Definitely in a good place and excited about these next 4 weeks of training before Chicago.

Well done Jake! 4 weeks out and looking solid.

Nice of them to get the uphill out of the way first. Good race, things seem like they're clicking along well.
