I think we used up too much good weather karma with the recent non-winter in Utah. Phoenix averages about 8" of precipitation per year, and 20% of that is going to come down in the next day. Hopefully we'll get a brief window of decent conditions... if not, then I'll fall back to my "Plan B" approach to the race.

Wasn't it all rainy the last time you guys were down there? Or maybe that was Rob... Anyway have fun and good runs!

From Jake K on Fri, Feb 28, 2014 at 09:40:19 from 199.190.170.31

That was Rob, the weekend before Thanksgiving for the NXN XC meet. Which was also the last time it rained in Phoenix, according to my parents.

From Rob on Fri, Feb 28, 2014 at 09:50:53 from 63.235.131.194

I lived in Mississippi for 2 years, but the worst rain storm I have ever been in was in Phoenix. Our plane got struck my lightning that trip.

Good luck!!

Can't they just move the race by one day??

From Jake K on Fri, Feb 28, 2014 at 10:13:15 from 199.190.170.31

This is why races should be on Sundays :-)

From Rob on Fri, Feb 28, 2014 at 10:33:27 from 63.235.131.194

All races should be ran on this course.

That staircase isn't even built to code.

What are you talking about? That's a Certified World Record course. Net Elevation gain/loss = 0. Or is it?

From Rob Murphy on Fri, Feb 28, 2014 at 16:08:45 from 24.10.249.34

The other 80% fell in late November.

From Jake K on Fri, Feb 28, 2014 at 16:12:40 from 67.128.146.20

True, they only get like 5 rainstorms per year. So it's almost guaranteed that NXN and the Phoenix Marathon will have dry weather on race day for the next 50 years.

From SlowJoe on Fri, Feb 28, 2014 at 17:06:00 from 66.69.93.8

It's warmer than you're used to, probably. A little rain might help.

From Jake K on Fri, Feb 28, 2014 at 17:09:37 from 65.127.208.182

The 20mph headwind should help keep it cool, too :-)

From SlowJoe on Fri, Feb 28, 2014 at 17:11:37 from 66.69.93.8

I knew you'd see the bright side!

From Jason D on Fri, Feb 28, 2014 at 18:13:06 from 24.1.80.94

There's a dividing line somewhere that starts around the Midwest (and the area continues west) that marks that races are on Saturdays (which I prefer). My mileage gets weird when I do a Sunday race followed by a regular week + long run.

I just did some checking, and the winds are SUPPOSED to be lighter, just on the threshold of tolerable/mildly annoying (~11 MPH), but I guess when you are running ~12MPH ~11 MPH is really magnified.

From Jake K on Fri, Feb 28, 2014 at 19:46:39 from 174.240.195.164

Yeah it looks marginally better at the moment. As with all things, you see what you get in the morning. I'd actually care more if I was in better shape, if that makes sense.

I like Saturday races for local... Sunday for traveling.

From RileyCook on Fri, Feb 28, 2014 at 19:54:21 from 172.56.14.150

That definitely makes sense Jake. I'd care more too if I thought I had a huge PR in me. But I don't feel that way at all. So regardless of weather I'm just going to focus on racing my competitors and not worry about the clock.

From Fritz on Fri, Feb 28, 2014 at 22:31:57 from 98.202.9.237

Good luck tomorrow! I hope the weather cooperates.
