AM - 6.7 miles. A cold and rainy run w/ Andrea, Allie, and James through Sugarhouse.

PM - 1.8 miles, quick shakeout after work. Just trying to stay in the normal routine.

Not running-related, but worth a watch: 60 Minutes segment on Alex Honnold. My hands start to sweat just watching him on a video.

that is unbelievable!

What Alex can do is incredible... physically he is amazing, but what really impresses me is what he can do mentally to stay focused and calm. That being said, he also TOTALLY FREAKS ME OUT!!! I hope he gives up free soloing before something bad happens.

yes, the staying calm part is what impressed me the most. he's so casual about it (whistling!). but to put yourself in a situation where you could die in an instant -- and do it repeatedly -- that's nuts.

Always good to have company on a rainy run! Jake, you have mentioned before a laptop timing system you use ... Can you offer any suggestions on a good affordable system? My son just started running cross country this year, and think that would be cool to use at some of their speed workouts.

First let me say that I've known about Alex for a while now and I'm continually impressed with what he does. That being said I'm not a fan of free-soloing. I've done enough climbing and soloing to know what the experience is like and it terrifies me.

Second, I'm absolutely certain that the hostess was flirting with him. I bet they hooked up.

You can't really blame her...I mean, who can resist that van setup?

JG - I think this is a good free program: http://www.isu.edu/~wattron/RonSoft3.htm

Jun/Andrea - That chick was definitely jonesin' on Alex and that sweet van he rolls in!

I actually laughed out loud when I read that! :-)

Its a shame they edited out whatever happened after that dialogue... I can speculate on what was said next, but I don't want to get kicked off the blog!

I get freaked out climbing a 10 foot boulder with a slew of crash pads and Jun’s welcoming arms waiting below for me to fall. That made my heart pound. Crazy! Yeah, it was pretty evident that she wanted a ‘ride’ in the van.
