AM - 7 miles. Rain run w/ Andrea. Our longest run together in who knows how long!

PM - 7 miles. Horsepark.

My Dad had to fly up to SLC for a business meeting last night, and was able to sneak out early today and spend the afternoon here before heading back to Phoenix. We decided to go golfing... played 18 holes... and it was (super, super surprisingly) the best I've played in years. I only play like once a year, so its been a long time since I've shot 6 pars in a round (and I missed 3 par/birdie putts under 4 feet)! Then again, playing a 4400 yard executive style course makes things a bit easier :-)

Very fun day, glad we were able to randomly spend a Wednesday together.

I need to mix some golf into my routine too. Cool that your dad could drop in for a day.

I'd be up for a Fastrunningblog golf outing.

FRB four-man scramble!

From Rob on Thu, Sep 12, 2013 at 10:36:39 from 63.235.131.194

I think it would be totally awesome, maybe we should require at least 1 girl per team and make it a four-'person' sprint.

Or we could do speed golf. I think it's an obscure sport where you place based on how fast you play and also on how well you shoot. They run in between shots.

We need to start training so we can compete against Lagat in the Speedgolf World Championships to be held in October. I do PT with Karl Meltzers wife and I think he wants to compete too.

I was 2 seconds away from posting that link!

The question is, are any of you any good at golf?

From Jake K on Thu, Sep 12, 2013 at 10:47:47 from 67.177.11.154

I was on the high school golf team before switching to XC

From RileyCook on Thu, Sep 12, 2013 at 10:50:58 from 132.3.57.78

I can be decent at golf when I don't use all my free time up running. So, right now I would probably be quite rusty! Hence the scramble suggestion.

Van Beekum is a good golfer. He was smoking Spencer, Keate, and me in St. George in Jan when we played down there. I've only played once since then :(

I play better now than when I played/practiced a lot years ago. The keys are:

1) Being tired from running

2) Not caring whether you are even good at golf (because you're tired from running)

Then you relax and don't try too hard.

From Rob on Thu, Sep 12, 2013 at 11:29:34 from 63.235.131.194

That's pretty funny Jake, I used to Golf "a lot" until I started running, but truthfully the being in better shape and not caring as much I think made me a better golfer now.

I was an avid Utah Junior Golf Association participant back in my teenage years. It's just one level below the PGA Tour.
