AM - Hiked the Highland Mary Lakes loop. Unbelievable views of the Grenadier Range. Immediate addition to the all-time favorite places list. [~9 miles, 3000']

PM - 7 miles. Ran in Silverton, winding around town with the whole crew, then added on a few more miles with Allie and James. We saw a wolf! Finished at the asphalt track (yes, there is an asphalt track in a town situated at 9300' with a high school enrollment of 10 students... WHY?) with a 400 (68 secs). James did it first so Allie and I had no choice but to follow his lead. We avoided use of the concrete/gravel long jump area.

Why only ten students? From the evidence I have gathered from your reports, they have lost many a student from the long jump pit of death.

Also...amazing pictures.

wow!! Those peaks in the background are crazy...and a WOLF sighting!? Dang!

(great, just got peanut butter on my keyboard.)

Jason - haha, it could very well be the case. Also, their primary school sport is probably silver mining, which is pretty tough.

Kendall - the Grenadiers are incredible. Vestal, Arrow, and the Trinities. I think they are possible the most stunning mountains in Colorado. Who needs Chamonix?

Also, peanut butter costs like a thousand dollars in Silverton, so if you ever go there, pack your own :-)

A wolf? Those are still pretty rare around there, right?

From Jake K on Wed, Sep 04, 2013 at 19:19:49 from 67.177.11.154

Very rare, as far as I know.

This was a weird situation. This wolf has been somewhat domesticated... the people in Silverton have adopted it. He's old, and they give him food. He hangs out in the NW corner of the town during the day. Some crazy guy was telling us about it, and we didn't believe him... we thought it was just a big dog, but then when we saw it - definitely a wolf! Kind of fat for a wolf though, clearly been eating human food :-)
