AM - 8 miles up to work, slowly.

PM - 4.5 miles. Then some yardwork. I dislike yardwork, and I despise pine cones. But now the outside looks nice and pretty. Gotta keep up with all the old people who live near us and spend their entire day pretending they are the groundskeepers at Augusta National.

I got a flood of text messages last night - the 4x800m relay record at my high school finally went down 11 years after my team set the mark. Granted, it wasn't a super fast time (8:17 - we had 2 guys who never broke 2:10, and myself and another guy would split 1:57s), but the guys yesterday shaved 6 seconds off the record, so I'm really happy for them. Its good to see records go down and new names up on the board. Amsterdam HS has never been a distance powerhouse (I took the 1600m record from 4:27 to 4:17 and the 3200m from 9:49 to 9:16 during my senior year), but they are starting to emerge as a strong track program again - they have a 15 year old who just ran 47.8 for the 400m. If that kid starts doing some mileage, my records will be toast! :-)

The old guard...

...and the new blood (they have much nicer uniforms now!)...

That is really cool Jake! You seriously look the exact same.

haha I know... I need to get my legs back to the point where I can run a 1:57... Then I'll feel 18 again!

Must be a new generation of track athletes...my 4x100m relay record we set my junior year was just broken last weekend. Lost 2 others in the last couple years, maybe the last 2 will go soon too!

nah, the old uniforms are better.

I agree with Allie - OLD SCHOOL!

I still have that AHS singlet (its really faded!), and the baton. Might have to break them out for the wedding bells relay.

Ha ... you have not changed a bit Jake!!

And, I love the uniforms.

Is it just me or does the kid on the end in the 'new' pic look like he could be your brother? crazy.

I never held any records for anything in HS and probably will never hold any records, but I think I'd feel a little pang of disappointment if someone broke it. But, that is why records were made...to be broken, right?

Nice work on the miles and the x-training!

For me, I'm happy to see the marks go down because that means the kids are really striving to do their best. Especially if anyone ever gets my 16/32 records (which no one has come close to) - someone is going to have to work REALLY hard to get those... it won't happen on a fluke, so it will be well-deserved... and I'll be thrilled if Amsterdam high school can produce a 9:15 2-miler!
