I spent the whole run visualizing how cool it would have been to be a member of N'Sync between 1998 and 2001.
Mental preparation - CHECK!

remember that video from '99 when justin timberlake set a stuffed moose on fire? those were the days.
From Jake K on Tue, Sep 11, 2012 at 09:12:08 from 155.100.226.191
Now to just find a stuffed moose, a source of fire, and some Justin Timberlake dance moves...

How's the weight, fatty?:)

With the taper in full effect shouldn't you be taking the 7.3 mile route to work? :)
From Jake K on Tue, Sep 11, 2012 at 09:48:55 from 155.100.226.191
Bam - I'm trying to gain as much weight as possible to take full advantage of gravity at the beginning of this race.
Rachelle - Yes, you would think I should be taking that route... BUT - the direct route requires going up a very steep hill towards the end. As I explained to Andrea yesterday, its actually easier on my body to take the slightly longer route that winds through campus a bit and gradually gets me up to the top of the hill. THAT'S MY STORY AND I'M STICKING TO IT!!! :-)

I knew you'd have some sort of strategic reasoning!
From Kam on Tue, Sep 11, 2012 at 10:31:36 from 68.66.163.179
You should fatten up for the first 14, then lose the weight with a strategically timed puke, and finish the last 12 light and fast. It would make for some dramatic photos, anyway.

gosh, your two mile tempo was just one second slower than my time trial :) you're going to nail this race. Good luck!

I was running downhill on the road and you were running on a XC course - you would have won this battle Mike!!

Hey i have a question. do you have a specific diet you eat the week before a big race or do you just eat regular and drink tons of water?
From Jake K on Tue, Sep 11, 2012 at 18:41:11 from 67.177.11.154
Regular food and try to drink slightly more water and slightly less diet mountain dew :-) Although I believe the dew helps me in the grand scheme of things... it makes me more radical.
I believe that the body craves routine and functions best when you "live like a clock" and just do the same stuff over and over again - the things you eat before you do hard workouts are just fine for big races too. The main thing, especially when racing 5K/10K, is just making sure you don't do anything that gives you a sidestitch.

I was going to put something witty about you tapering, but I see see Bam, Allie, and Kam have it covered.
From Michael Finch on Tue, Sep 11, 2012 at 18:50:06 from 75.169.198.37
thats a good point. cause if you do anything that makes you have sideaches your race is most likely killed.
thanks for the advice, i think i might start up on some mountain dew :)

@ mike. Looks like the secret to success isent as far off as one might think! Twinkies and mountain dew;)
