Need to spice up my entries for the week. I've been running super easy everyday (lots of horsepark loops on the grass) in an effort to be 100% recovered before doing another workout. You can't really make significant fitness gains between races two weeks apart anyways, so I'm just looking to do about 2 more moderate workouts before Duluth. Probably tomorrow and Saturday, and then just a light session at the beginning of next week.

I took Lacie (our 16 year old foster puppy dog) to the vet this morning. She's made some big improvements since she moved into our convalesence home and the vet was really please with her recovery. Her weight is going down, but she still weighs 72 POUNDS!!! That is gigantic for a GSP! She's a pretty sweet girl and has no idea how old she is. I was walking with her in SHP during XC practice this morning, and she about pulled me into the pond chasing after ducks. She wants to kill all birds. Her hatrid of birds actually reminds me of Andrea :-)

When you said you were taking it easy this week did you mean on word count in your posts? ;)

From Jake K on Wed, Jun 12, 2013 at 09:21:15 from 67.177.11.154

I guess so. I've pretty much been doing slightly different iterations of the same run, lots of easy loops on the grass. I'll do a workout or two on the back end of this week... no need to push anything harder yet. In the past I feel like I've done workouts coming off 1/2s a little too soon. 4-5 really easy days (or 6-7 after an all-out effort) is probably what it takes to truly be recovered.

fwiw I think you're being smart. You're right, no need to push it this week.

I did need to spice up my blog for the week though. So I added photos of our foster dog :-)

Lacie is probably only 20-30 lbs overweight. No big deal :)

Great pictures!

She really should be about 45 lbs. Her previous owners were idiots.

Very cool dog.. I'm envious because our condo agreement doesn't allow dogs only cats.. I always tell my wife; You can't take a cat out on a run! I assume you plan on getting her on some easier and shorter runs in the future?

From Andrea on Wed, Jun 12, 2013 at 10:59:02 from 72.37.171.52

I can't believe she only lost 1/2 lb during her week with us...maybe we need to cut down her sleep from 16 hours a day to only 13 :)

From Jake K on Wed, Jun 12, 2013 at 11:03:30 from 67.177.11.154

Steve - our condo doesn't allw dogs over 25 lbs. Oops! :-)

We aren't keeping her permanently, though.

She is probably too old to really be going for runs at this point. But she can lope around at the park remarkably well for her age. She's like the Ed Whitlock of dogs.

awesome dog.

From Jason D on Wed, Jun 12, 2013 at 11:04:22 from 24.1.80.94

Yeah, I was going to say. She doesn't look very big in terms of her build. They do vary in size. My parents' dog easily weighs 60-65 lbs, but she is built like a male. I got after my dad about her weight because she looked like she was getting heavy. The last dog they had looked a lot like Lacie.

Frank could eat Lacie and Andrea too!

I still don't think she can be 16! I sure hope someone adopts her :)

From Lily on Wed, Jun 12, 2013 at 11:15:23 from 67.199.178.95

Oh she is so cute! Yeah, get her weight down. This is awesome!

So I was thinking this morning about how you said this week you planned to take it easy. What has your pace been this week for "easy"? I just want to know for curiosities sake!

From Jake K on Wed, Jun 12, 2013 at 11:20:26 from 67.177.11.154

7:30-8:00 is my typical easy recovery pace

From Lily on Wed, Jun 12, 2013 at 11:26:40 from 67.199.178.95

Awesome. That's what I thought. Hey did you see that Rupp and Mo Farahh are in Provo training this summer?

From Jake K on Wed, Jun 12, 2013 at 11:30:50 from 67.177.11.154

Yeah the Oregon Project has a house in Deer Valley where they live. They come down to BYU and Univ of Utah to use the track. Its quite a crew, a lot of the top runners in the world spend the majority of the summer here.

This is the greatest blog post I have ever laid eyes on! Lacie is adorable.

From wascallywobert on Wed, Jun 12, 2013 at 18:12:35 from 192.91.171.42

Jake, just curious who is doing the sugarhouse relay carnival with you?

From SlowJoe on Wed, Jun 12, 2013 at 19:29:23 from 12.232.117.226

You guys are going to end up keeping the dog. I call it.

From Jake K on Wed, Jun 12, 2013 at 20:02:52 from 67.177.11.154

Rob - we don't really have a full team yet. All that's for certain is that Kevin is wearing a speedsuit and running the 400m leg.

Joe - its actually really tough for us to have a dog full time... right now its easy, but eventually Andrea is going to be fully healthy again and we're going to start making up for the traveling we haven't done in the past year... like, hopefully starting in July!
